Japanese Antique Raku Teabowl (Chawan) made during Mid-Edo Period (1603-1868).
Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century. The seal of the potter is stamped at the bottom. Size 2.613in. (6.7cm.) high; 4.212in. (10.8cm.) diameter; 230g weight. Condition Good considering the age. There is a chip at the rim. Please see the photos for details. No cracks.

Rankaku (crushed egg shell) on cream colored lacquer alternating with highly polished black. This work truly encapsulates the freedom for form which artists were seeking in the post war period.
