Oversized Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) rendered in bold colors featuring a kabuki actor portraying a samurai plunging an arrow titled “Arrowhead” by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). The print is pencil-signed, dated ’76, and numbered 43/50. The artist’s red seal is above the date. The paper size is about 27 1/2” x 23 1/2." Very good, clean overall condition. Valley of Utsu - A set of five miniature Japanese woodblock prints. Date: 1966. Each woodblock print is 2.25 x 2 inches. Condition: Excellent. Note: Set includes woodblock-printed title sheet, colophon, and list of subjects. Antique Japanese woodblock print by Koitsu Tsuchiya (1870-1949) entitled Moon at Sumanoura Beach. A lone villager walks on the beach lit by the full moon. In the foreground are gnarled pines.
Koitsu Tsuchiya began studying the art of woodblock printing at the early age of 15. He studied for 19 years under the ukiyo-e master, Kiyochika Kobayashi... Japanese limited edition woodblock print by Morihiro Sato (b. 1943) depicting white bellflowers. A student of Joichi Hoshi who was influenced by Hoshi's use of metallic pigments, the artist set the flowers and partial moon (or sun) against a metallic background. Depending upon the lighting conditions (see image taken with flash) the background appears either golden or silver. The print is pencil-titled in kanji "Autumn (Bellflowers)" and numbered 3/55 at the lower left...
