Sold Japanese antique rectangular kesa or priest/monk's outer vestment cloth. The silk brocade of this kesa is a pale orange color and finely woven with colorful designs of dragons in clouds. The silk is Imperial Chinese, as shown by the five clawed dragons. Lined with dark blue silk.
Often described as a mantel or robe, the kesa is worn draped diagonally over the left shoulder and under the right armpit...

Very handy and thick handspun & natural indigo dye cotton.
This is an indigo-dyed cotton squeezer made in Asamai during the Edo period. The pattern is a four-step change pattern. The "Hat" and "Umbrella" patterns that are familiar to the general public in Western civilization were adopted from the city.
I think it caught the eye in the Asamai area of Akita Prefecture...

$3600.00 It is a thick indigo dyed cotton noren that looks like a very nice folding screen of Taisho era.
It is a very auspicious pine, bamboo, plum and crane, turtle design.
There is a faint fading part, but overall it is in very good condition.
On the far right is the name and date of the orderer for this noren. There is a family crest of the house.
This noren has 12 panels sewn together. Size::Vertical length:170cm (66.9inch) / Widt:398cm (156.6inch)

sold thank you This is good-quality Noren used in the merchant's family of the Yamagata Shounai district for Edo period.
The figure pattern of a wave and the plover means a good combination of attractive harmony.
Merchants of Shonai thought about the harmony with local people to the first. And there was the harmony of a merchant and the farmer there. The good-quality hemp was dyed in Tsutsugaki. This does not have a stain and damage. The state is complete.

SOLD Important Antique Japanese Buddhist Pilgrim's coat. Buddhist monks would embark on a pilgrimage to travel temple to temple. Upon arriving to each temple, the monk would bathe before giving offerings and reciting prayers as well as receive a stamp distinctive to each temple. Normally a monk would carry around a special stamp book however it is not unusual to stamp the monk's coat as seen here.
Very rare to find one with so many locations marked and visited...
