This is a beautiful example of an old Kyoto Yuzen dyeing. In this kimono, you can see the white lines around the designs, the very characteristic of Yuzen dye. This is where the rice paste is used to resist the dye and is later washed off. The dye on the silk bleeds. By outlining or covering the design area with the paste, the dye artists can work with the design more freely in detail than in the older pre-Yuzen method, which simply uses dip dying and/or embroidery...

Antique Japanese “Yogi” bed comforter, hand-spun cotton with "tsutsugaki" paste resist dye in aizome Japanese indigo dye. The design is auspicious symbol, Sho-Chiku-Bai (pine, bamboo, plums). The shoulder and collar areas are accented with "kasuri" cotton. Excellent condition - no holes on the front except one small L shape cut (3/4"x3/4") on the lower area, some repairs on the liner. Cotton wadding was taken out and cleaned (but not washed)...

Mid Edo Period (1603 - 1868)

Japanese Wedding Gown with embroideries, some stains. There is no trace of being worn on this Uchikake wedding gown. The outer fabric is white (creamy, light tan) silk and the liner is also high quality silk which makes it very light in weight. There are some color migrations from the embroidery yarns. You can look at it as a bokashi (gradual shading), with the color change right around the embroideries. The one on the left shoulder is visible and the coloring spreads to the front shoulder...

This gown had been used as a rental. The condition is not new like most of my other gowns are. Some large stains are shown in the lower collar area (see Enlargement 9) and several small stains in the other areas - shown in the other enlargements. It is a whitish creamy color. Dimensions are: 51"w x 71"h with 41" sleeve length

Plastic torso wearing smaller pantie than full scale manufactured (but not for sale) by Wacoal, the Japan's leading undergarment maker. Showa period, 20th century, Japan. H 21.5 x W 15 x D 10.5cm (8.46 x 5.90 x 4.13in). Maybe a sample, but a rare as never seen before...

This is a beautiful vintage kasuri kimono in new condition. The color is dark Japanese indigo blue (aizome) and white. The fabric is thicker and loosely woven, all hand sewn. Dimensions: 47 3/4" (sleeve to sleeve) x 52" long

This is a japanese antique Boro Cotton woven tabi socks (Japanese socks with split toe). It is a rare socks from the time when cotton was precious. Size:Length:21cm (8.26inch)

A vertical corduroy wall hanging textile, the velvet partially cut and painted with ink and colors. Naturalistic depiction of five tigers in a forest landscape. Brocade border, floral patterned lining with hanging loops. Signed and sealed in lower right corner. Condition: fine, one small stain. Dimension with border: 242 cm x 175 cm.

The Size of Obi: 12 1/4" Wide x 176 "( 14 feet). This is wonderful Fine Japanese Kyo Obi with Platinum works with silk. Obi has Japanese Katakana marking at the end “PURACHINA” (platinum). It is not made of Platinum Haku (leaves) rather Platinum threads. It has beautiful Goshoguruma (Imperial wheel carrier). It has also the flower design of Peony, Chrysanthemums as well as other flower design. The clors are very delicately composed. As Fukuro Obi, there is a blank area as photographs...

The size of Tabacco Ire: 6 3/8" Long x 2" Wide x 7/8" Thick. Very unuusal Japanese Tabacco Ire set. The pipe holding case made of Bamboo work with clasp made with tin plated on brass. Bamboo work done well weaving. Tabacco case made by silk brocde. It has brass part. The condition of Tabacco Ire, very good except some wear on back of string area and a couple of other place. And tin plate some worn. Early Meiji, 1870-1880...

Unique Japanese Uchikake (wedding gown), embroidered in thick light blue silk, the liner is red silk without padding except at the bottom hem. The embroidery and gold couching (some silver) work are all done by hand. The pattern is from ancient Chinese "Shokko nishiki". The colors of silk looks different on different parts of the gown. We laid the gown under the sun light when we took extra photos...

Unique old Japanese yogi (kimono-shaped futon bed cover) from Kaga, a weeping willow tree with a butterfly family crest, 57" x 72", Meiji Period (1868-1912).

Kaga, located in today's Kanazawa prefecture area, was known as "Kaga One-million Koku", the wealthiest domain next to the Tokugawa Shogun family during the Edo period (1603-1868). Two silk Fukusa wrapping cloths designed and or hand painted by Kamisaka Sekka enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating from the Taisho period. The first is an emboridered wrapping cloth with patterns of flowers and grasses designed by Sekka, 13 x 14 inches (33 x 35.5 cm) in excellent condition complete with red cloth obi. This is his Tsutsugaki item, which is impressive with its very surreal pine and bamboo designs drawn in Tsutsugaki during the Edo period. The young pine tree in the center of the picture is drawn in an unbelievably large and surreal manner, and the bamboo, which is also impossibly deformed, is drawn in the background. This is an old man's silk Jyuban, an undergarment worn under a kimono, a luxury from the past. Strange, but you will find quite a work of art in the undergarment, much more than finding them on the outer kimonos. The carps are tie-dyed. Other than a faint stain right above the right side carp, it is in excellent condition. This stain wil not show up unless you look at it under the sun. The measurements are 52" in width and 53" in length. No lining.
