sold Shiny and vivid Aka Raku (Red Raku) Chawan, hand molded during the Meiji Period around 1900. The chawan is signed and the wood box is included, too. Some parts of the chawan were intentionally left unglazed (white parts around the foot - no cracks!) to generate imperfection. Size: 2,9'' height x 4,5 cm in diameter.

sold Rough and heavy Hagi Chawan, over 100 years old (Meiji Period), with an expressive crackle glaze. Aesthetic inborn kiln cracks make this chawan so special. No damages or repairs. The signature chip located on the bottom (unknown potter to me) is a local tradition from the Edo period when potters would deliberately disfigure their wares in order to sell them to merchants instead of presenting them as gifts to the Môri clan... Japanese steel teapot with nice design.

sold This interesting piece is a ko-karatsu ware ( old Karatsu ). This appellation designates early pottery from the kilns of the town of Karatsu, located on the island of Kyushu, Japan. The date of the foundation of the first karatsu kilns is uncertain, but there seems a consensus for it to be around the beginning of the 16th century during the late Muromachi period ( 1336-1573 )... Japanese Antique Raku Teabowl (Chawan) made during Mid-Edo Period (1603-1868).
Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century. The seal of the potter is stamped at the bottom. Size 2.613in. (6.7cm.) high; 4.212in. (10.8cm.) diameter; 230g weight. Condition Good considering the age. There is a chip at the rim. Please see the photos for details. No cracks. Already Sold An absolutely stunning Edo period (1700s) Kuro Oribe Chawan covered in thick, ink-black crackle glaze and some fine cream colour with symbolic decoration. It has an unidentified kiln mark. The slightly irregular kutsu-gata form settles easily into the palm of the hand, with the built up rim resting lightly on the fingers. A high quality Japanese wood box is part of the offer. No chips or repairs. Only natural inborn kiln cracks... Excellent light tea bowl fired in the Busan kiln which was run by the Tsushima feudal clan in the middle of the Joseon era (17c)...
