DESCRIPTION: A handsome ikebana basket, Meiji Period, crafted of smoked bamboo in a diagonal weave with double wrapped handle. Three vertical bamboo strips reinforce two corners, and the basket rests on a square, open weave base. Excellent condition with no breaks or losses. Ikebana ("living flowers") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is also known as Kado ("way of flowers")...

Inspired the works of Iizuka Rokansai, this open weave basket with richly toned dark red-brown split bamboo has a slightly tapering cylindrical body with an offset loop handle at the top. Signed with an incised signature on the bottom. Comes with a bamboo water container. Dates late 20th century. Measures 8” high including handle, 4.74” diameter. This basket had a very nice sheen to it that is not being captured by the photos. You will be pleased.

Vintage Japanese kiri wood round smoking set made from one piece of wood showing a bold beautiful grain. This tobacco smoking hibachi has a copper bowl and receptacle which are used to put a pipe or other smoking tools and ashes. Often used with tea ceremony, it measures 3.5" high x 6.5" diameter.

A delightful Japanese wood tray in the shape of a lotus leaf. Chiseled Katabori with raised veins and stem and stippled leaf rolled back on sides. The back of the tray is as detailed as the top with an intricate pattern of veins and curved stem. The tray is used in the tea ceremony.

An antique okinawan incense container decorated with a lacquer and inlayed mother of pearl depicting a dragon appearing from clouds. Circa 19th Century. Mother-of-pearl inlay, which is known Raden in Japan was first introduced to Japan during Nara period (710-784). The technique was popularly used with lacquer for artworks such as instruments. Large Japanese Showa period circular form burlwood tray with raised sides made from a single piece of wood. 15 7/8” diameter x 2 1/4" high. The raised sides are 3/8" thick. Weighs just over 2 lbs. Likely dates from the first half of the 20th century. Very good overall condition. From the estate of a collector of Japanese mingei in Phoenix, Arizona. The original price tag remains on the bottom.
