This is a Buddhist statue of Japanese coloured wood carving. It was made about 200 years ago and it is a real authentic original. It is never imitation. Such very old buddhist statues are very rare and valuable...

Early Edo period, 17th century.

Enjoy this small local wooden folk Buddhist statue called 'Minshu-Butsu' (or 'Minkan-Butsu'), dated back to the indicated age but could also be earlier.

It is unique and soften modeled with calm smiling in 'Gassho' pose, coated with mature paint and an impressing merciful aura.

A refined and elegant statue of Amida Buddha along with Samantabhadra and Avalokitesvara also known as either the Amida Triad or the Three Sages of the Pureland. The triad became popular during the Kamakura Period around the 12th- 13th centuries and a rich visual culture surrounding the triad emerged. It dates from the mid Edo Period ( 17th. century ).

A comparetivly large sized Japanese Kannon Bosatsu from the Edo Period - about 250 years old - used in Sōfuku-ji ( 崇福寺 ) Temple in Gifu and since 80 years in our collection.

It is made of premium wood and has been carved by a master craftsman. The golden colour is still vivid and shiny and looks absolutely amazing...

A man-headed snake coils atop this incredible mid Edo period (18th century) image of Benzaiten (Saraswati) inside a mountain shaped reliquary of dark wood. Inside the gilded cave she sits on a gilded lotus base. The figure holds a variety of sacred implements in her 8 hands. Riding on the benevolent figures head is the snake seated behind a Torii-shaped Crown settled between two Buddhist jewels...

Japanese Carved Volcanic Gray Stone Jizo, Bodhisattva Buddha is holding Lotus Bud, Edo period, before 1800, 22" high, 11" wide maximum, 9" deep. Old lichen is growing in some areas, and in good condition.

Japanese Stone Nyoirin Bodhisattva Sculpture, Edo period, before 1800, 21" high, 10 1/2" wide, 6 1/2" deep, one(1) arm on the knee seated position. There are some small nicks on the edges.

Japanese Stone Jizo Bosatsu Sculpture, Edo period before 1800, 17" high, 8" wide, 5 1/2" deep, weather worn and peaceful Statue.

Tiny zushi, or hand shrine, with double doors on two sides. Inside a two-sided reliquary with tiny stones, in the shape of a flaming jewel, or tama, on a lotus base in gilt copper alloy and glass. Shrine made of kiri wood (paulonia), inside covered with lacquer with nashiji gold sprinkle. Outside mounted in gilt metal hardware with nanako decoration...

Zushi, shrine used in Buddhist temples, containing a statue of Aizen Myoo. He sits on his typical lotus throne carried by a vase full of jewels, surrounded by a circular, red, flaming nimbus. He has six arms and on his head he wears a crown in the shape of a lion’s head flanked by two gilded sharito reliquaries. In his lower hands Aizen holds a ghanta and a bell, the secondary hands hold arrows and formerly held a bow, the upper pair of hands used to hold probably a rope and a jewel...

Twelve Shinsho are guardian Buddhas of Yakushi Nyorai and they are 12 worriors and armoured. They have 12 animal symbols on the head. This one looks "Sarugami", monkey judging from the apprearance. Early 18th century. In good condition but some parts are lost. Height:29cm Width:12cm

Very rare cast bronze sculpture of the Chinese monk Xuanzang with a pile of Buddhist scriptures rolled up and stacked in the pack on his back and a lotus leaf over his head from which dangles an incense burner, as he returns to China from India.
In his hands he was holding a scroll and a fly whisk that are now missing. Figure stands on an irregularly shaped base. Japan, mid Edo period, 18th century.

Small shrine with the esoteric Buddhist figure of the Fudo Myōō who personifies Dainichi Nyorai. He is standing on a rock pedestal – symbol of his steadfastness - with a rope in his left hand and formerly with a sword in his right hand (broken off and missing). Behind him a flaming red mandorla. The patterns on his garment and his jewelry painted delicately in gold and mineral colors.

Sculpture of a priest sitting with his legs crossed, his hands positioned on his knees, formerly holding a scroll and a rosary. He wears a robe, carved in low relief, with the usual square pattern in red and green typical of a priest’s robe. His face is very rich in expression, his bare chest clearly shows his ribcage.

Small Buddhist shrine, or zushi, containing the figure of the Bodhisattva Kannon Nyoirin in six-armed form, sitting on a lotus base positioned on rocks. Kannon sits in position of royal ease, his head resting on his main right arm. In his other right hands he holds the wish-granting jewel (nyoi hoju) and a rosary of stringed beads. His main left hand rests on the lotus, while the others hold a script and a, now missing, lotus flower...

Buddhist shrine containing a sculpture of Shichimen Daimyojin in sitting pose, one leg crossed over the other. She sits on the summit of mount Shichimen, one of her shoes by her side, holding a (golden) jewel in her left hand. In the right hand she hold another object, likely a key that is now missing.

Very unusual figure of the Kigyo Kishimojin, standing with a baby in her arms, holding up a pomegranate in her right hand. In this form she represents the protector of children.
Almost abstracted wooden figure with dark patina. The mouth painted red, the eyes inlaid with glass or crystal painted with gold in reverse technique, the pomegranate made of a red kernel.
