An 18th-early 19th century Literati landscape featuring a scholars gathering in a forest of pines on one side, a pair of boats pulling up to a hermitage on the other. These are published in the book Jidai Byobu Shuei (pre-restoration, pages 76 and 77). They have been completely restored maintaining the original cloth border and are in superb condition. Each screen measures 70-1/2 x 150-1/2 inches (179 x 382 cm)...

Plums blossom across 24 panels, harbinger of Spring and a cue to the scholars it is time to end the winter isolation and set out on journeys to old acquaintances. Ink and light color on paper dated 1913 with applied gold flake in a silk border decorated with gold designs enclosed in a black lacquer wooden frame. It retains the original backing paper. The screens are 149 x 68 inches (379 x 172 cm) and in excellent condition...

A pair of Wooden doors dating from the later Meiji to Taisho period of fine clear grained panels hand-painted with butterflies, birds, and floral dials in brilliant color by Maruyama Oyo in red lacquered wooden frames retaining the original brass hardware. They are made for an opening 141.5 x 180 cm (55-3/4 x 71 inches). They are in overall fine condition. These were acquired from a large estate along the Kamiyagawa River in Kyoto’s posh Kinugasa district...

Antique Japanese scroll with silk embroidery. Scroll shows a mystic and tranquil view of Mount Fuji floating among the clouds. Three separate scenes are painted in a vertical flow, with the very peak of Mount Fuji at the top, and a flowing river at the foreground. Signature of Kano Tsunenobu (1638-1713). Antique Japanese two-panel screen of two hawks on paper panel, set upon a gold leaf background. Each panel is beautifully done, an intense expression seen in the face of each bird, which were a very popular status symbol. Signed and stamped on each panel. A small fan painting by an anonymous painter of the Tosa School in ink, colors and gold on paper. Mounted on goldfleck paper. Depicting a battle scene of the "Tale of the Heike", an epic account of the struggle between the Taira and Minamoto clans for control of Japan at the end of the 12th century. This fan painting probably belongs to the same set of illustrations of the "Heike Monogatari" in the Museum of Asian Art in Berlin. Condition: slightly browned, some pigments rubbed...

A pair of Japanese Edo Period scroll paintings by the painter Sumiyoshi Hiroyuki (1755-1811) , one of a dragon in the clouds and another of a tiger in a bamboo thicket, skillfully painted in sumi ink on silk and signed by the artist. The painter, Hiroyuki was as disciple of the painter, Hiromori and a of successor of the Sumiyoshi School which worked primarily for the Shogunate of Edo Period...

A superbly rendered image of a golden-eyed monkey with prehensile tail curling upward in a fine mounting of golden striped brocade by Ota Issai. The scroll is 34 x 59 inches (86 x 150 cm) and is in excellent condition, completely remounted using quality materials without overpainting. Ota Issai (1892-1979) was born in Nishio city, Aichi prefecture near modern day Nagoya...

An early work featuring white walls in Autumn foliage by Kitamura Seigyu enclosed in the original signed double wooden box. The box appears to be titled HakuryuJi no yu (evening around Hakuryuji). There are many places named Hakuryuji in Japan, so it is difficult ot be specific, but near his home of Hokkaido, and a place he would have passed through is a Hakuryuji in mountainous and rural Akita prefecture...

A pair of gold screens with bold shishi on genuine gold leaf. It is signed Miyauchi Gohogan Shinsai Fujiwara Morimichi sei and stamped Hogan Morimitsu no In. Each panel is 37-1/4 x 68-1/2 inches (94.5 x 174 cm). The screens have been restored, with some old repairs visible. These appear to be remounted from what is likely a different composition, possibly a set of fusuma doors...
