Taisho period (1912 to 1925) Japanese Bronze, beautifully cast of a child teasing a goose with a wafer. Cartouche signature Tadamitsu-saku. A later dedication on the base from Tokyo Gaikokugo Gakko Korinkai dated June 1940. Measures 19" high.

Beautifully cast Bronze ram with cartouche on bottom. The ears, horns, and facial features are finely detailed. It measures 7" tall.

Naturalistic crayfish made of copper from the Meiji period, 1868 -1912. The piece is unusual in that the legs, antennae, and tail move in the same way that a real crayfish moves. It is signed Shinju on the base of the body. It measures 6" long.

Antique Japanese articulated figure of a praying mantis, made of bronze with copper color finish, with fully moving parts, beautifully detailed and life like, signed under wing by the artist Kozan who was famous for his articulated creatures (the Crown Prince later the Taisho Emporer was a patron of Kozan). Antique Japanese Bronze Warrior with upraised arm holding a Buddhist Bell Bowl and holding spear in other arm. Gold leaf on raised design. Very fine detail, good condition with small wear to gilt. On hardwood stand, bell taper inside bowl. Bronze figure is 17.5" High, with bowl 24" High, 30" High overall.

A fascinating Japanese shrine bell known as, Waniguchi, or directly translated as Crocodile's mouth, which resembles the wide mouth of a crocodile. The bell is usually found in shinto shrines that enshrine deities that were imported to Japan or Shingon temples. The bell contains an inscription stating that the bell was originally donated by the ancestors of the donor in 1686 and a new bell was rededicated in 1839. The bell appears to be dedicated to Sometani Shinbei. Age: Late Edo Period, 1839...

Pair of bronze vases with mixed metal inlay of motif of herons perched and flying near a willow tree. The vase contains the inscription: Dai Nippon Kyoto Ju, Ikkodo Bunryu Atsuyoshi. Trans: Residing in Kyoto, Japan Ikkodo Bunryu Atsuyoshi followed by a kao or a distinctive signature of the artist. The artist, Miyabe Atsuyoshi was active during the Meiji period and paved the way for contemporary Takaoka Bronze art. Age: Meiji Period Size: Diameter: 3.25" Height: 9.75"

Charming small Japanese lidded box in the shape of a folding fan, made of silver with copper for handle, incised with two family mon inside and two impressed marks on back of outside, one reads the name of the maker, Kyuka-sei and the other which reads jungin or sterling silver. Piece comes with small original tomobako, Taisho Period (1912-1926) Size: 3 7/8" long

A large bronze sculpture in the form of a censer decorated with auspicious motifs, cranes, and scrolling clouds. The lid has a small sculpture of Shoki, the demon queller standing on top of a rock with crashing waves. The side of the censer are two dragons staring at the central figure. The bottom of the censer is held up by four spirits known as shojo, known for drinking large amounts of sake and often seen in Kabuki and noh plays...

Antique pair of dramatic bronze censers, each with a warrior seated on top, the surface of each censer is decorated all over with ornate damascene (metal inlay) patterns, standing on four feet on stand inlaid with dragon, each leg is inlaid with the face of an oni (demon protector), each warrior sits on a rocky outcropping with hidden holes to allow incense smoke to escape dramatically around the figure, Meiji Period...

A Japanese gilt copper hanging lantern decorated with engraved motifs of scrolling clouds, waves, and vines. The bottom contains a six petaled flower like design. The feet of the lantern is known as neko ashi, or cat legs, which is often seen in Japanese designs.Age: 20th century. Size: Height: 17.5" Diameter: 14.5"

A Japanese shrine lantern often seen hanging outside of shinto shrines. Generally there are devotional lanterns that are donated to the shrine and lanterns that are part of the architecture and design of the shrine complex. This lantern would be the latter, where it was part of an Inari Taisha shrine. The lantern contains the distinct crest of the inari shrines and each panel is decorated with a cut out design of scrolling vines. Age: Meiji to Taisho Period...
