An antique Japanese merchant chest called Choba Tsukue made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Two drawers used for the storage of an inkstone and brushes as well as paper for writing transaction records and receipts. The drawer interiors have minor ink stains which is a testament to its usage and function.

Beautifully carved throne chair with a gorgeous deep reddish lacquer, with carvings of dragons and billowing winds into its back, dragon heads serving as the arms and front legs with painted glass eyes. The back of the chair features a large spiral leaf, smoke-like carvings along the top and sides, and a small lower panel with fleur de lys carving and a cloud border. Behind each door is an identical set of interior drawers with locks for each one. Simple and very functional. Dates from the Edo Age 18th century. Size: 21" height, 42" length, 23.5" depth

Japanese antique box constructed of Kiri (paulownia) wood with original dark red lacquer finish. The top iron handle may be used to carry the box, and it also opens the top shallow compartment for safely keeping calligraphy papers. Below, the main body of the box holds two long drawers originally used for ink stones, brushes, and other scholar's implements.
