Japanese merchants chest known as a gyoshu baku. Made of 100% sugi (Japanese Cypress) wood. Hand forged iron hardware. Single hinged with latching door. Tucked inside are seven drawers. Gyohu bakus are meant to be worn on the backpack for ease of transport and organized storage.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest called a Gyosho Bako (peddler's chest) made of Sugi (Cryptomeria) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. Two pairs of rings on each side used to rope the Tansu to carry on ones back for peddling wares from town to town. The front hinged door secures 7 drawers used for inventory storage.

All original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware including the Hirute style handles. Lift-off security door opens to two drawers where the captain's uniform would have been stored. Fully framed in iron.

Beautiful Japanese kusuri medical dansu made of kiri wood (paulownia) and sugi side frames (Japanese cypress or cryptomeria). With original finish and hardware. Lacquer with orange, dark reddish, brown and mahogany tones. Usually with 100 small drawers and two large drawers on the bottom. Metal hardware on each drawer and side handles. Age: Edo Period. Rare Japanese gyosho kannon bako. Constructed of Kiri wood with original red lacquer finish. The piece is fitted with hand-forged iron plates and mounts. The front of the chest holds 3 small drawers in its lower section, with a pair of large doors above. The interior of the chest has a large open compartment with a long drawer long the top. The sides are fitted with iron rings and handles with a long cord so the piece may be carried on a merchant's back.
