A minimalist square hibachi utilizing fine Keyaki wood and the edge and side holders are fitted with a special Kurogaki or persimmon wood frame. Kurogaki wood is highly valued in Japanese woodcraft often seen made into writing boxes and tea utensils. The hibachi comes with a wooden legged frame and a cover to be used as a side table. An antique money box or zenibako made out of keyaki wood. The front panel detaches and back side of the board may have been used to test the brush before writing notes and documents. The bottom side of the box contains an inscription possibly the location of where the box was placed. Interestingly, on the front of the box next to the lock is a traditional logo carved on the panel. The logo is often used by merchants and often seen on door curtains to storehouses in the Edo Period...

Rather unusual zenibako where the fittings seen on the box are typically done in iron, the fittings of this zenibako are carved from the wooden pieces that are used for this box. The top section of the box contains the characters: Kin Senryo, or 1000 Ryo of Gold and underneath the lid is a lacquer decoration of a Tensho period gold coin. A traditional lock and key comes with the zenibako and a manju netsuke with an ojime decorated with images of mice. Age: late 19th to early 20th century...

An antique Japanese kuruma tansu coming from the Mikuni region. The tansu is fitted with iron fittings to retain the condition of the tansu and to protect the vulnerable areas of the chest. A hibachi contructed into the form of a table known as Edo Naga-hibachi. These hibachis were often seen in the daily life of the Japanese since the late Edo period. The hibachi contains two drawers often used to store tobacco accessories and items to maintain the fire.
