An antique Japanese low chest called Isho Tansu made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles. Added custom iron base to elevate chest for modern form and function. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

A large antique Japanese Kotansu made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Two sliding doors open to a spacious storage area with two small drawers to the side and two full width drawers below. Unusual size that would make the perfect night stand or side cabinet in any room decor.

An antique Japanese Kake Suzuribako (aka calligraphy merchant box) made of Kuri (Chestnut) wood. All original finish and hand forged iron hardware. Hinged lid opens to a storage area where an inkstone and Sumi (ink sticks) were kept. The remainder of the top has a slot where coins were inserted to be kept in the upper drawer out of the sight of wondering eyes. Two additional drawers were used to keep calligraphy brushes and Washi paper used for writing...

Japanese two(2) section Tansu, chest on chest, Ca. Meiji period, late 1800's, 41" high, 41" wide, 17" deep, Black Iron round Back Plate with floral Mon design, beautiful shaped heavy black iron handles. Two(2) small drawers behind black iron mounted small blind door on lower right side. Two(2) small drawers are "as is", one(1) missing small round ring and damaged wooden area in front.

An antique Japanese Kotansu (personal storage chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original bronze hardware including the stylized Gumbai handles and the metal embossings symbolizing the four seasons; Maple leaves on the handles representing the Fall season, Mums representing Spring, etc. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Japanese fune bako, or ship safe box, made from keyaki wood with its original lacquer. The top of the box has iron hinges and a warabite handle, which opens for storing calligraphy stones. The front has three drawers, one with a large iron lock.

Edo period (1615-1867)

Beautiful Japanese keyaki wood zeni bako, or money box, the top of which has a handled door with three studded iron hinges and flower-shaped lockpin, and thin iron slot for depositing money, dropping into a small drawer with an iron lockplate. Two more drawers are in front with kan/ring pulls. Edo period (1615-1867) Size: 9" height, 8.5" width, 12.75" depth

Antique Japanese long gyosho bako (merchant's box) with iron warabite handles on its back and front hinged door with flower-shaped lockpin. The inside holds four long drawers with ring pulls.

Mid Edo age (1615-1867)

Size: 11.75" height, 26" length, 8.25" width

Antique Japanese single section isho tansu (clothing chest) with two large drawers. Made all of sugi (crytomeria) wood with deep reddish brown lacquer finish on the drawer panels and black lacquer top, sides and front frame. Iron work includes two elaborate lock plates, raised seed pods in corners, and moko shaped drawer pulls. From northern Japan, possibly Nigata area. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) Size: 18 1/2" high x 32 1/4" wide x 15 1/2" deep.

Antique Japanese melon shaped hibachi, wilt gilt lacquer designs of chrysanthemums, peonies, and butterflies, gilt nashiji flakes and inlay adding depth to the nature scenes, interior with old patina. Meiji age (1868-1912)

Antique Japanese tall box made from Kiri (paulownia), natural finish wood. With 5 front drawers slightly recessed into the box, opened by round "kan" pulls with lotus pod style backplates. The edges are protected and reinforced with iron plates.

Taisho period (1912-1925)

Unusual Japanese stacking box comprised of 10 shallow compartments for the storage of important documents or calligraphy implements. The edges of each compartment are reinforced with hand-forged iron plates. The tall box is held together by a long cord.

Edo Period (1603-1868)

Dimensions: 9.5" : x 14" D x 16.5" H

Japanese small Kiri (paulownia) tansu, with pair of sliding panels concealing a shelved interior compartment, and five drawers of various size with metal pulls and locks. Original condition and finish.

An antique Japanese Ko Tansu known as a personal storage chest made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Traditional wiped lacquer finish and original bronze fittings complement this piece. It features a hinged door that houses a compartment with a removable shelf.
