Charming Japanese small tansu (merchant's chest) in original red lacquer finish with black lacquer frame, made with Kuri (chestnut) front drawers and Sugi (cypress) sides. Rare Japanese bar tansu from the Mikuni region, made with Hinoki (cypress) wood front panels and Sugi (cedar) wood top and sides. Heavy in weight, with structural bars along the back and sides, all original deep red lacquer finish, the front locking bar with highly ornate iron display of auspicious motifs and turtle shaped lock pin.

Antique Japanese unusual single-section clothing tansu, with Kiri (Paulownia) wood front drawers, Sugi (cedar) interior, with a Hinoki (cypress) wood pair of slatted, locking safe doors. Attractive, natural woodgrain with original dark finish. This piece comes from the Kyusu area of Japan and is rarely seen.

Antique Japanese Funa Tansu (ship safe chest) made all of quarter sawn cut Keyaki (elm) wood with revealing natural woodgrain and finish. Cut out appliqué hardware with incised floral motifs adorns the body of the tansu. There are six drawers altogether.

Antique Japanese small tansu chest made for personal use, made all of kiri (Japanese cypress) wood with nice patina and especially nice joinery. This tansu has beautiful copper hardware all over the front including corner bracing, lock plates and moko shaped drawer pulls. One large drawer runs the full width of the top portion of the chest. Below this is a vertical row of three small drawers on the right side and a compartment opened by sliding panels on the left...

Stunning Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) from the Matsumoto Area in Japan. Adorned with a red lacquer Keyaki hardwood frame, along with Keyaki (elm) front panels of a golden honey original finish. Highly functional design with many drawers of various sizes, including an unusual long shallow one below a set of sliding door panels with a shelved interior.

Pine wood used in the back and split in some areas caused by dryness and old age, shows wear and tear in original condition, as found condition from Japan.

The top section has two burl sliding doors and two very large textured glass panel doors, the interior of which has very unique shelving with natural wood accents, lacquered in red. All drawers have heavy ornate back plate and heavy black iron handles, the condition is good, original condition, all the black iron works are solid and heavy.
