Beautiful antique Japanese cha tansu (tea chest) made of beautiful burl keyaki (elm) wood all over with original lacquer finish. Drawers of various sizes with heavy iron hardware with hirute shaped handles, side handles and four locks. Two compartments with sliding panels. Middle compartment includes staggering shelves and two small drawers. This piece is originally from Shizuoka, Japan. Age: Taisho Period (1912 - 1925). Size: 28.5"H x 30.5"L x 13.5"D.

Japanese persimmon wood cha tansu (tea chest), made chestnut wood frame, kiri (paulownia) wood drawer interiors, and beautiful solid persimmon wood panels, dramatic grain, large compartment opens with sliding panels to reveal stepped level shelf inside, Taisho Period (c1920). Size: 35 1/4" high x 29 1/4" wide x 12 3/4" deep.

Japanese antique 4 section butsudan (Buddhist shrine for household use). The exterior is lacquered all black with double cabinet doors to the shrine area. The interior of the butsudan is lacquered gold and black and has ornate carved details of phoenixes and a dragon just below the shrine roof area. Details of birds and waves are carved in the area below. The interior shrine compartment has a slide out tray as well as a small compartment with gold lacquer sliding panels...

Japanese Funa Tansu, or ship safe box, made from Keyaki (Zelkova) wood in an unusual wide shape with two hinged doors instead of the typical one (this style known as Ryobiraki-do). It has iron hinges, corner hardware, and a large, round iron lock in its center with multiple sliding locks and two kan (ring) handles. Inside, it has two long drawers with two warabite handles each, one large drawer with a single handle, and two smaller drawers with leaf shaped handle backings/locks...

It has a beautiful, warm woodgrain, iron warabite handles, with cherry blossom and leaf iron decorations above and below each handle, and a corner lockbox with a flower-shaped lock handle and ring pull with flower backing. 19th century Meiji Period. Japanese two-section Keyaki Nihonmatsu tansu with a black lacquered frame, a corner lockbox with iron plating and hinged door, four long drawers with iron hardware, warabite handles and iron locks at their center with a the image of a tsuru (crane) flying over a kame (turtle). The tsuru and kame are sacred creatures in Asian culture, each a symbol for longevity, and are said to live one thousand and ten thousand years respectively...
