A gorgeous Japanese isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Sendai region, with a red lacquer Sugi (cedar) frame and Keyaki (elm) front drawers in its original, rich honey finish. Each drawer opens with mokko (melon) style handles on lotus back plates, and is adorned with elaborate scrolling vine iron locks. The bottom safe box holds three red lacquer front drawers, and hides away a secret back compartment.

Antique Japanese unusual choba tansu (merchant's chest) with original red lacquer finish hardwood. A single long drawers runs along the top, with four small drawers along the righthand side, and two large, hinged doors on the left, with an interior storage area. Simplistic decorative iron plating of round locks, squared (kakute) handles, and scalloped corner hardware decorative the front and frame of the piece.

Antique Japanese solid ebony hardwood cha tansu, for storing and displaying tea ceremony articles. The top of the piece has a wide compartment behind two sliding panel doors, with two open shelves below. Its sides are carved with a reticulated honeycomb design. The bottom of the chest has two Persimmon burl sliding panels opening to a lovely shelved interior with foliate carved paneling and two small drawers.

Taisho period (1912-1925)

Antique Japanese small Kiri tansu from the Sakata region, with red lacquer top and sides and black lacquer front. Motifs of bamboo, pine, kiri leaves, and other floral imagery can be seen in the iron plates of each drawer. The bottom right corner houses an ornate lockbox with two small drawers inside. The top section has two sets of sliding doors, one with mesh, all with ornately carved panels across, the lower portion has eight small drawers with beautiful Keyaki burl. Antique Japanese two section Kannon Biraki tansu, made with Kiri (paulownia) wood, original red lacquer finish. The top section houses two large drawers behind a pair of double hinged doors. Decorations of iron hardware include a charming heart shaped lock within a single iron ring and strips of iron across the front of each door, with chrysanthemum shaped studs. The lower section also holds two drawers with iron locks, as well as a safe compartment in its bottom corner...

Japanese contemporary Kaidon tansu known as a step tansu. Comprised of three sections. Made with solid Keyaki (elm) wood, this tansu will hold many precious things within its various size drawers and compartments. Each compartment opens from both sides, so this Kaidon can be facing either direction. Its doors feature vertical slats to create an interesting contrast of texture and design...

Antique Japanese 2-section, 3ft. Mizuya made with Hinoki (cedar) and Sugi (cypress) hardwoods, accented by gorgeous Keyaki (elm) burl wood front panels in a lovely contrast to the frame. Both the upper and lower section house a large central compartment with shelving for the storage of kitchen articles, with 2 and 3 burl front drawers beneath respectively.

Black Iron original Handles and round back Lock Plates. The condition is original, some scratches, no hardware pieces are missing.
