A strong form has been carved from this block of rough shigaraki clay, a seven sided vessel absent of glaze yet filled with the vibrant colors and textures of the kiln. It is an early work by Shigaraki star Kohyama Yasuhisa amd comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It measures 7 inches (18 cm) tall, 4-1/2 inches (11.5 cm) across and is in fine condition.

Japanese Arita porcelain round form deep dish decorated in underglaze blue with a karashishi (Buddhist lion dog) among leafy flowers set against a faintly celadon tinted white ground. The back bears an abbreviated apocryphal Chinese Ming dynasty Chenghua reign mark (Taimin nenka) on the glazed base. The foot rim is unglazed. This is an early Japanese Imari vase from the last quarter of the 1800's. The leaves and flowers are painted in thick colorful enamels. There are also some gold highlights. This is a very refined studio vase from the Meiji era. The subtle colors and detail are truly beautiful. It is signed by one of the Japanese porcelain masters, Nishiura Enji. The work on Mt Fuji is raised relief and give off a three dimensional look. The shape is elegant and the changing colors are vry elusive. The vase stands just over 6 inches tall and is in excellent condition.

A rare octagonal porcelain dish decorated in underglaze blue with a flowering bush by a rock, along the border stylized Chinese characters. The rim glazed brown, the base with three spur marks and a "fuku" mark within a double square. Dating to the early Edo period. Condition: well with little scratches, rim with 3 tiny frits and two chips, and one chip under the glaze (photo 8). Dimension: diameter: 20 cm, 3.2 cm high.
