A trumpeting Chinese form by Miyanaga Tozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kiji Kodo Gata Kabin (Yellow Porcelain Vase in the Shape of Ancient bronze) and retaining the original Rosewood base. It is 12-1/2 inches (31 cm) tall plus the base, and in excellent condition.

Small food dish for vegetables, relish etc. of round shape with small indentations in the rim. Thin, light colored stoneware, covered in cream-colored glaze with very fine crackle and pinkish brown swirls. In the bottom a highly stylized kotobuki character (longevity) in iron brown and three green glaze splashes on the rim. Glazes have left a few spots uncovered. Oribe ware, Japan, early Taisho era, 1920s.

Minimal traces of usage, fine condition.

A large pair of decorative vases painted with a pattern of stylised peonies in underglaze blue and gilt set against an iron red ground. The vases are of compressed mallet shaped form with wasted body and flared mouth, a form used at the Fukugawa factory from the late 19th century onwards. Probably early 20th century in date. The vases weigh respectively 2.152kg and 2.016kg and stand 29cmand 28.7cm high...

Japanese early 20th century Sumidagawa large pitcher. The pitcher is done with 3 monkeys done in high relief. The chop mark of the artist in on the back Inouye Ryosai. The vase measures 12 3/16" tall and 6 1/4" wide and about 4 5/8" in diameter.

Golden bamboo spreads its leaf laden branches about the rim of this aka-e Kinsai bowl by Kyoto potter Takahashi Seizan and decorated by the famous painter Hashimoto Kansetsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 6-1/2 inches (17 cm) square and in excellent condition. This is from the personal collection of painter Konoshima Keika (1892-1974). We will be offering more from his household in the near future...

Three Water Droppers from Japan. Two droppers show a boy holding a red snapper fish which is symbolic of good luck. The third dropper has Hotei's bag holding the water. Hotei is the god of contentment and happiness, and his bag holds an inexhaustible cache of treasures. The standing boy measures about 3" high x 1 3/4" wide. Two rare small Japanese porcelain sleeping cats. The smaller cat measures 1 7/8" long, and I believe that it is the smallest cat that was included in a set of several cats of various sizes. The other cat is rare because it curls to the right (almost all cats curl to the left.) Both cats are from the Kutani kiln, and their condition is perfect. The smallest cat has the "made in Japan" mark. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.
