A fine porcelain vase with two carps painted by Makuzu Kozan, also known as Miyagawa Kozan (1842-1916). The vase comes with a tomobako inscribed, signed, and sealed by the artist. Kozan's family originally produced fine tea ceramics for the imperial court during the end of the Edo period. During the Meiji period, Kozan moved his kiln from Kyoto to Yokohama to produce export ware. Shiro Satsuma (White Satsuma) ware sake decanter shaped in the form of a turtle. In Japanese, the word asobi may be translated as playful where the tail is stylized in the shape of a handle and the lid to the decanter is using one of the hexagonal piece of the back of the turtle. An antique Bizen ware figure of Daikoku, one of the seven fortune gods in Japan. Daikoku is holding a mallet (uchide kozuchi) which Daikoku often holds. On the other hand, he is holding a two legged radish. The word radish in Japanese, daikon, is somewhat synonymous to Daikoku and a legend exist of how the two legged radish became associated with Daikoku. Age: Meiji Period. A set of 7 fluted plates decorated with various plants symbolic to Japanese culture and motifs often seen in Japanese porcelains known as Imari ware. The plates contain an inscription, kigyoukuhoutei no chin, that often is associated with a specific type of Imari ware known as Daiseiji Imari ware. A large antique Meiji period Kutani plate decorated with motifs of peonies set in the center of the plate surrounded by gold scrolling vines and stylized flowers. This is very fine Imari Pedestal bowl. In fact one of the best ones we have come across. It has very fine workmanship and there are many symbolic characters mixed into the busy design so look close at the images. This is a fine Japanese Satsuma sake pot or small teapot. It is signed by Kinkozan. It measures 4 1/2 inches across at the spout. The handle is slightly tattered but the pot is in excellent condition.

A simple yet artistic Seto ware jar. The jar is done in a creme base with a brown and green color drip glaze surrounding the piece. The style of glazes is reminiscent of the expressions seen Japanese earthenwares of Seto, Tanba, or Kyoto. The work contains a signature-like inscription on the bottom which reads, Sanshun. Antique Japanese vase decorated with scroll vine motifs around the mouth of the vase and animal like figures near the mid-section of the vase. The glaze used for this piece is emulation Jun ware which was developed in the Song Dynasty in China and in Japan, Song dynasty style glazes captivated connoisseurs and tea masters. DESCRIPTION: This vintage eight-sided Japanese platter is raised on a square foot with blue underglazed geometric designs covering the flat interior and with chrysanthemums scattered over diagonal cross hatching around the raised edges. Perfect condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, and dating to the first half of the 1900’s; maker’s mark and collector’s stickers are on the back. DIMENSIONS: 10 ¾” square (27.4 cm) x 1 5/8” high (4.1 cm).
