Two rare small Japanese porcelain sleeping cats. The smaller cat measures 1 7/8" long, and I believe that it is the smallest cat that was included in a set of several cats of various sizes. The other cat is rare because it curls to the right (almost all cats curl to the left.) Both cats are from the Kutani kiln, and their condition is perfect. The smallest cat has the "made in Japan" mark. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

Three cups and saucer trays by Noritake, Japan, mid 50’s. Saucers shaped like water lily leaves – a modernist design also reminding of the painter’s palette shape so much in vogue in the 50’s in ceramics, jewelry, teak wood and more. The cups to fit at one side, in order to allow for a sandwich or some biscuits. The back with the N and ribbon mark in use from 1953. Width of saucers "9 ½ / 24 cm, height of cups "2 2/3 / 6.8 cm. A finely potted Hirado dish featuring three figures wearing capes and carrying heavy packages upon their backs descending down a high mountain trail. Inferred by the small gnarled Pine trees on the wayside. Although no particular scene is identifiable the figures are in Hokusai “style”. The reverse is painted with a Karakusa arabesque and has a single spur mark within the base of the footring. The dish dates to the late Edo period and the middle of the 19th century...
