This raw form covered in scorched white has been slabbed off in the Shinogi style by Atarashi Manabu. The word Shinogi denotes the curve on a samurai Sword blade, and has come to be used in pottery to describe things which have been scored or sculpted with a knife. A Bairin Yaki Suiteki water dropper in the shape of an eggplant and bowl covered in that quintessential Bairin purple and green glaze flowing into the water bowl. It is 10.5 x 6 x 4.5 cm (4 x 2-1/4 x 2 inches and is in overall nice condition, with miniscule chips repaired on the rim. Suiteki are used to provide water for grinding ink on an ink stone.

Rare Nakamura Donen (1876-1937) Mishima Ware Chawan Bowl with Gold Repair Kintsugi. Nakamura Donen was a famous potter during Meiji-Taisho periods who worked in different styles such as Raku and Mishima. 19th C Japanese Imari oval porcelain plate decorated with a simple basket of flowers. Colors are vibrant with old gold accents. In excellent original condition, it measures 12 1/8" x 10 1/4". Dates circa 1870.

An unusual Arita blue & white porcelain plate, circa 1700 - 1750. A smaller dish with similar moulded and gadrooned edge and border of spiky foliage is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. A short eight character poem is incorporated in the design, but is probably unrelated to the figures, reflecting the contemporary popularity of haigu combinations of painting and poetry during the late Eighteenth century...

The shallow dish with a roundel containing a very finely painted coiled dragon, Danryū mon, within a double circle. The cavetto is decorated with a stenciled trellis or Chinese lie-wen design against a pale ruri background. Within the foot-rim is found an apocryphal Chinese Ming Chenghua reign mark.
