Square dish with straight rims, with elegant indentation on each corner. In the center two cranes (or similar birds) walking on rocks underneath a pine tree near the sea. On the inside of the rims a continuous border of heart-shaped flowers, on the outside a border with diamond pattern, broken by one cartouche on each side, containing a house. The top of the rim decorated with a karakusa-border.

The cream-colored crackle glaze dish is decorated in copper brown in the fukizumi (blown ink) style with a central fish laid over a jar. Chawan, or tea bowl, for use in the the tea ceremony. Fine gray stoneware turned out rather thin of almost round shape, with a ‘soul’ in the bottom, standing on a bamboo shaped foot, a swirl inside the foot. Opaque yellow glaze with fine crackle covers the ceramic. Over the yellow a white slip hakeme brush stroke on the outside and on the inside.

A diminutive image of the three monkeys made to support the Kettle lid in the Japanese Tea Ceremony dating from the later 19th to early 20th centuries by Nagaoka Kuumi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A warning to all, the little creatures hear nothing, see nothing and speak nothing. What passes in the tea room stays in the tea room. The figure is 4.5 cm (roughly 2 inches) diameter the same height and in excellent condition. Impressed into the base is the artists seal.

A playful troupe of elephants parade around the rim of this early bowl by Shigemori Yoko enclosed in a signed wooden box titled Zobachi. The creatures are in relief, raised from the surface, not engraved into it. This was made by pressing the clay slab onto a surface into which were engraved the family of creatures.
