Ceramics artist Kojima Naoki (b. 1962) works in Sogen Kiln located in the town of Karatsu creating his pieces entirely from earth and natural colours.

Naoki Kojima opened a Karatsu ceramics store at the age of 18.
Held first single exhibition at 21 and decided to pursue ceramics. Later he opened his own studio and a kiln.

A beautiful vessel / seashell Kara of organic shape with a sideways, seedpod opening in mat mottled turquoise glaze producing a feeling of underwater ambiance. The rest of outer body and the side, elongated shell is done with his usual technique of grooving the surface with needles and rubbing iron into the grooves resulting in those great dark brown and white lines. Porcelain dish from japan, arita, kakiemon kilns. end of the 17th century. Decor in the center of phoenixes, rocks and peonies in overglaze enamels and underglaze cobalt blue (which is unusual for Kakiemon). On the edge, decoration of the three friends, bamboo, pine and prunus, by fantasy the artist added chrysanthemums. On the reverse the apocryphal mark of the Chinese emperor Tcheng-hoa. Pair of fine satzuma earthenware vases. The cream colored clay is covered with finely crackled glaze. A golden decoration representing pagodas in a mountainous landscape is placed on a matte black background. Some details are sprinkled to imitate morning mists. These are original vases inspired by Komai style vases in gold damask steel. Probably made in Kyoto during the Meiji or Taisho period. Good condition. Height: 125mm.

A small powerful work in clear glass covered in spiraling silver foil with a lid of opaque black by Ogawa Kaoru enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ruri Koro. Very refined earthenware vase, from the Satsuma kilns, with polychrome enamels, presents a decoration of courtesans (bijin) and a child under a flowering tree with on one side, in the background, a cottage at the foot of a hill. At the base of the collar, the shoulder is covered with chrysanthemum flowers. A barely legible mark under the base in a red lacquer cartouche, partly covered by a collector's label, could be attributed to Fujan (?). Height: 15 cm. Period: Meiji (1868-1912) 19/20th.
