Bizen ware Sake set of Tokkuri and Guinomi made by Bizen master Joji Yamashita (b. 1947) The mark of the artist is carved on the base.

Joji Yamashita was born in Tokyo in 1947. He moved to Canada in 1967 where he graduated from Vancouver Art School.
After returning to Japan in 1970, he studied Bizen ware under Isezaki Jun and established his own kiln in 1978...

This rare little gem is made by Morihiro Hosokawa (b. 1938) who served as the prime minister of Japan from 1993 to 1994.

He is also the head of the Kumamoto-Hosokawa clan, one of the noble families of Japan...

Golden threads are woven into a home for the large three-dimensional spider crawling over the scrolling edge of this caramel-colored dish dating from the Meiji era. It comes enclosed in an age darkened wooden box titled Akahada Kashibachi (Akahada Sweets dish). It is roughly 16 x 18 cm (6 x 7 inches) and in excellent condition. The clay is consistent with the sandy texture of Akahada, however the color is quite unusual.
Akahada Pottery began in the Momoyama period (1573-1603)...

A traditional mimi-tsuki cylindrical vase by the artist who wrote the book on traditional firing, Furutani Michio, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Tatsuzo Shimaoka (1919-2007) Square Bottle Vase with iconic Aka-e Designs

With tall rectangular sides, decorated with impressed rope patterns inlaid in slip and with Aka-e designs.
It is rare to see Shimaoka bottle with such design which he mainly applied for tea ware.

Tatsuzo Shimaoka was a Japanese mingei potter who studied under Shōji Hamada and later became the second Living National Treasure of Mashiko, Japan.

The size of vase: 8 5/8" High x 3 1/8" Dia top x 3 5/16" Dia bottom. This Shigaraki Flower vase is made by master ceramist Kusube Yaichi ( 1897-1984). It has very unusual and interesting Keshiki by Ash covered finish. It came with Kiriwood Tomobako. The top cover has Japanese writing, "Keijyu" (Celebrating long life, translation). "Kabin" (flower vase). Inside cover has Signature of "Yaichi Saku" (Yaichi made) with his chop seal. It also came with Tomonuno with Yaichi's "Ya" seal on it...

Enigmatic natural forms seem fossilized on the white surface of this rare guinomi by female pottery star Hattori Makiko enclosed in a black lidded wooden box signed and dated inside Heisei 27 (2015) and titled simply Shuki. It is 7.5 cm (3 inches) diameter and in excellent condition. This was from way back when we could acquire works by her. Those days are long gone, and this is the last of its kind.

This odd squat bottle, with the sake cup resting on top, reminds me of images of the itinerant Buddhist Monk Taneda Santoka who wandered Japan in the pre-war era, his black robes flowing down around his bundled form, fueled by drink and composing poems. Here he is found, bamboo Kasa hat pulled down over his eyes, dozing off along the trailside...
