$8,000.00 Large Indian bronze sculpture of Shiva Nataraja, Lord of the Dance. This form of Shiva demonstrates his most dynamic aspect: that of Shiva the Creator, Shiva the Preserver,and Shiva the Destroyer all combined in a dance which makes up the cycle of time. Each of Shiva's four hands show important clues as to his distinct importance: one hand holds the drum which makes the first sound of creation and one the flame of universal destruction...
H. 11,6 cm. Very nice age wear and a soft patina with traces of puja worship.
Provenance: Belgian private collection.
Statue of Krishna dancing on the head of the Kaliya Snake, on an elevated square base, holding a butter ball in his right hand. Bronze, with fine dark green patina. India, early 19th century. Height: 6,4 cm. Abrasion due to age, otherwise very good condition.
NOTE: this statue refers to Krishna's adolescence. The Kaliya snake had poisoned the pool in which cow herds were drinking. Krishna revived the cows and had a fight with Kaliya, kicked it almost to death, and then danced on him...

Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. Height 26 cm (the sculpture), 32 cm including the stand.
Indian demon chaser mask in bronze repousse from Karnataka in five parts: head, headband, ears and a tube within the head to permit the mounting on a pole. Backside with red paint. Please refer for a quite identical mask to: "Ritual Bronzes of Maharashtra and Karnataka" by Leo S. Figiel, M.D.: Fig. 7-65. Condition: traces of usage, back part of the head and headband with some dents. Dimension: 26.2 cm high.

A further holds a rosary and the last holds a sweetmeat. A hooded cobra supports his trunk and a large rat nibbles his foot. From northern India, mid 19th century.
