Large Chinese Neolithic Machang Painted Pottery Jar

This impressive pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. It is quite "heavily-potted" with a smooth surface and is fairly highly-fired. It has a short neck with flared mouth, and two sturdy loop handles on opposing sides at the waist...

It is 18.7 inches (47.5 cm) tall by 15 inches (38 cm) wide.

Its bottom has missing enamels, enamel bruising, enamel chips, bent metals, and bent metal rims. It also has rubbing of gilt and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

Pair of parakeets resting on a rock. White hard porcelain, yellow enameled spouts and legs, black enamel details. The body of the birds is covered with a transparent glaze, however the unglazed rock which is covered with a layer of brown lacquer. I don't know of any other other same parakeet listed so it is difficult to date them with certainty.Probably Chinese work from the Qing period. Good condition, lacquer worn in places...
