A spectacular 19th century large Famille Rose pink-ground flared rim porcelain beaker vase, finely enameled with a pair of phoenix resting on cherry blossom limbs, surrounded by scattered peony blossoms. Orange peel glaze. Interior and base glazed turquoise. Measures 15" tall. Excellent condition.

Shell mounted on a silver base. Chinese work made for export? From memory I seem to recall that a pair of identical cups were presented at the V&A in the 90s. The shell is held by silver nuts in the shape of a butterfly, it rests on a grove of 3 silver bamboos. The whole rests on a finely worked wooden base. The other nuts are in the shape of clover. The whole is finely worked and chiselled. Beautiful finish. Extremely rare object. Very certainly end of the 18th century...

A large and very rare beaker shaped Chinese porcelain vase painted with scenes in cartouches delicately enamelled in "mandarin" palette, and reserved on elaborate gilt scroll ground. This item was made in China for export to Europe late in the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795).

Condition - this vase has been broken in a number of places and has had extensive professional old restoration. .

In this frame two scenes are portrayed of amorous pursuits with various ways of entertainment in the entertainment quarters. The mood is lively. Some play the musical instruments like the Qin and Mandolin, while others chat or rest on Dali marble chairs. Beautiful flower arrangements are positioned in each scene. There is incredible detail on the faces and details are realistically painted...

A pair of two different paintings depicting different views of people either engaged in different activities. One scene appears to show a soldier like figure coming back or meeting a lady and another scene is depicting a family at leisure. Particular elements have elements similar to Chinese theatrical costuming and designs. The techniques are more Western since these works were made in Guangzhou in the Canton concessions. An interesting set of two Chinese Canton paintings depicting two festival scenes that were possibly seen on the streets in China during the Qing dynasty. The top view depicts a figure riding a horse and people are flocking to receive blessings. The bottom scene is showing a theatrical troupe passing by.
