In this representation he is also holding a small pagoda which is similar to another arhat but the long eyebrows identify him. Chinese soapstone carving of a scene from a folk tale: the famous Tang Dynasty poet, Meng Haoran (689-740) ventures out into the snow with his young attendant in search of plum blossoms in the snowy hills. In finding this hint of early spring, he hoped to find inspiration for his poems. They see an amazing plum tree starting it's bloom in the cold of late winter...

A very fine antique Chinese archaic green jade carving of a beast. It's head has barred teeth and is turned to look backward over it's haunches to which are attached wing-like structures or a kind of stylized saddle. The unusual and thick tail twists and spirals in a circle and the feet rest on a sleigh-like pierced base. Early 19th Century, origin China, very good condition with no cracks or repairs. Size: L. 7 cm. x H. 4.75 cm. Rare!

Over 110 years old Chinese Buddha head mounted on a high class wood base.

It is made of fine natural stone and has a nice patina. This mounted statue is part of the Van Norten Collection since 60 years and has been exhibited in our private house since then. Wonderful, age related condition.

Finely carved foo dog playing with a small ball done in Jade. The fur of the foo dog is carved in stylized scrolled motif with detail work showing each fur. Foo dogs are an auspicious motif in East Asia and often paintings and sculptures are produced. Age: 20th century. Size: height 1.3" width 1.75" length 2.5"

Large Chinese Guanyin Temple statue made of Jade, with changing jade colours from light green to green, yellow, grey and black. This solid figure is seated on a double lotus flower, one hand holding the pearl and the other a vase.

The Guanyin is in great antique condition with very detailed carvings. Absolutely rare and one of a kind. It dates from the Mid Qing Period (circa late 18th. century)...

Beautiful Chinese carved jade vase, a lovely green and reddish brown jade, the form of the vase itself is carved with a vertically ribbed surface, two highly raised gnarled pine trees are entwined around the vase, beautiful to look at, Republic Period. Size: 4 3/4" high x 4" wide x 2 1/2" deep.

A very large jade disc carved with a hole in the center. Both sides of this central hole are lipped which is very rare in "bi's." Compared with flat bi's, lipped bi's require a lot more carving and are much more difficult to make. The bi is beautiful with its complex colors and patterns. The colors range from cream to greys, ochres, greens and blues.Period: Neolithic ( 3rd millennium B.C.)

Chinese sandstone carving of Buddha's head, a fragment from a larger statue. This buddha has delicate features and a beautiful expression with high arching brows over half lidded eyes and a slight smile. Hair is a series of continuous sweeping rows over a subtle cranial protuberance. Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). Size of head: 12 1/2" high. Total size including stand: 18 1/2" high. (custom Black Iron Stand).

Pair of Chinese small stone lions, wonderfully carved with great detail and expression, traces of color, each lion is carved standing on a little stone platform, Ming Dynasty. Size: 7" high x 4" wide x 5 1/2" deep.

19th Century Chinese Natural large carved Rock Crystal Guan Yin figure, Ca. mid 1800's, 9 1/2" high, 3 1/2" wide-widest part, 2 1/4" thick, carved out of one large Rock Crystal, almost clear and good quality, well polished without infusions on her face, hands and feet. Only rough area with some infusions are on the upper head in the back which is not well polished, shows darker brown tiny spots in the stone...

Deity probably Taoist in soapstone. The god is standing, brandishing the Ying and the Yang. It must refer to a specific character and a story or legend. The work is finely executed and the style of the carving is unusual, cartoonish. In addition, the artist allowed himself to cheat by abnormally moving the left ear too close to the eye so that, seen from the front, the face is balanced...

Chinese Ming Dynasty (perhaps older) stone head of a Buddha. Well carved with the face in a pleasant expression with beautiful lips and almond-shaped eyes, flanked by elongated earlobes.
