Antique Chinese hardwood bitong (brush pot) container for holding the brushes used by scribes for Chinese calligraphy. Made of dense and dark hardwood. Simple form with thick walls that taper inward slightly in the center. Soft to the touch with original buttery like finish.

Antique Chinese bitong (brush pot) carved of hardwood with beautiful grain patterns. The mouth and foot of the container have a fine cusped edge. The bottom is carved with three low feet. The bitong has a pleasing overall shape with a slight flare towards the top.

Antique Chinese bitong (brush pot) carved of huanghuali wood with mythical chilong creatures. Undulating edges around the rim seem to unfurl. The lower portion is carved with a cusped edge and three low feet. Beautiful grain.

Antique Chinese brush rest made of black glazed porcelain in the form of a lingbi scholar rock. Sculpted and drilled with holes and windows like a miniature version of the prized lingbi stone. This brush rest has five peaks, creating four areas in which to lay one's brush when it's not in use. Fitted with a carved hardwood base. The flat underside is carved with a six character Qianlong mark.

Chinese brush made of bamboo and horse hair. The handle is carved and painted with an inscription. The brush hair is horse hair. The top of the brush has a metal fitting with a ribbon hanger. It measures 13" long, the handle is 1" diameter.

Chinese Bamboo Brush pot, carved design was highlighted with black lacquer ink and filled in, 5 3/8" high, 1 7/8" x 1 3/4" wide-top rim, Ca. before 1920's, incised black decoration of figure under the tropical tree next to bamboo fence. The condition is good.

All in a garden setting with a fence and mountainous rocks. In very good condition, there is some old insect damage to the base bottom rim. See last photo. Measures 6.75 inches high, 5" diameter. Each side is separated by a thin corner panel, carved with two serpents or dragons with vine-like bodies...

Each face is beautifully inlaid with a floral arrangement: a pine branch, a flowering apricot or peach branch, a magnolia branch, a pair of narcissus flowers, a vase with lotus and a second vase with magnolia.
