$750.00 Chinese elm wood square low table in a natural finish with two deep drawers each on two alternating sides. Brass hardware appears to be original. Late 19th century. 19 5/8"H x 31 3/4" square. There is an old narrow moon shaped burn on the top (see enlargement 3) and there are a few small separations in the wood on the top from shrinkage. This piece is from a Tucson collection and was purchased by expatriates to Taiwan in the 1980's.

Sold. Thank you A very rare Chinese Nanmu scholar's table chest. Nanmu wood has been used in China since the Han dynasty and is very prized by collectors as it is difficult to find. I feel that it is rarer than huanghuali. I have only come across one Nanmu scholar's chest in all the years that I have been collecting.

Only replacements were the hardware in the folding joints as the originals had rusted out. The back panel has an open- work floral design with a cloud design on the upper and lower panels.
