The wood is very hard, dark brown in color with red highlights, its grain is very fine, similar to mahogany or rosewood. When touched, the surface is slightly irregular, indicating the use of careful manual finishing with a scraper. Good condition. Pair Chinese square Rosewood Tables, Ca. 1920, 20" high, 17" square, inlaid with Bone representing shape of Dragons on four(4) side skirts, supported by square tapered curved end on the bottom, all the legs are reinforced by stretchers with the side skirts. It also supported by extra bars underneath the tops. There are some small pieces of inlaid Bones are missing.

The table is made of hongmu, a tropical hard wood, that was very popular in the 19th Century. The table measures about 29 1/2" long x 10 3/4" tall x 16" wide, and dates to the Quangxu Period (1875-1908)...

A nearly identical piece described as hongmu is illustrated as lot 6500 of Bonham’s 14 October 2014 auction in San Francisco. 24 3/4" long x 11 1/2" wide x 5” high; weight: 9 lb. Very good, solid overall condition. There is a small amount of shrinkage evident at one side of the top floating panel...

The cutouts as well as the details are very skilfully executed. Probably pieces of furniture. Probably china but perhaps vietnam. The largest panel measures 215mm. Bone inlays are missing.
