A Chinese ruyi scepter carved from beautiful zitan wood, a symbol of good fortune used in Buddhist ceremonies. "Ruyi" directly translates into "as you wish". It has been ornately carved with lingzhi mushrooms on the head and running down the curved handle, which ends in a gnarled root form. High quality carve work. Chinese hardstone lidded vase carved with scrolling dragon head handles and freely moving rings. The lid has a pointed finial with natural black pebble coloration. The foot of the container is slightly flared and recessed. The natural pink and grey tones of the stone give the appearance of heavenly clouds, which are traditional motifs associated with dragons.

Antique Chinese carved jade belt hook. Topped with pierced chimera, carved dragon's head over the hook, and archaic scrolls. These belt hooks symbolized the wearer's elite social status as the means of obtaining them was not accessible to those of a lower class.

Charming Chinese acrobat in a handstand atop a natural rootwood base. The acrobat is hand carved out of boxwood. He wears shorts tied at the waist and a pair boots. His hair is tied back and he has a goatee. Very finely carved. It is from the Ching Dynasty, 19th century. It measures 27 tall, about 18" wide at the base. Excellent original condition.

Chinese jade bowl, carved with a scrolling vine motif and auspicious symbols. The foot of the bowl is bordered by a lotus pattern. Finely carved of very thin jade of a beautiful mottled green, ome small cracks. Circa 1950

Antique Chinese branch coral carving of a beautiful maiden. She stands holding a vase with peonies. Her hair is pulled up into a high bun on which is perched a bird. Her robes flow around her and she stands on a rocky out cropping. The coral is perfectly balanced on an ornately carved hardwood base.

Antique carving from Jade of a Chinese foo dog in a curled position. Despite the name, foo dogs (or Shi) are actually lions with dragonlike features and are depicted as guardians, often to the rich and powerful. Ming dynasty. Size: 2.75" long, 1.25" tall

Antique Chinese lapis bottle, with detailed carvings of a beautiful woman in flowing robes standing beside a small boy holding a peach, who appears to be handing the woman a leaf. The flip side of the container is carved with a long-stemmed sunflower and puffs of smoke. The lid has reticulated carvings of a sunflower and stems with two birds perched upon it. circa 19 century Size: 4" height, 2.5" width

Incense burner carved in turquoise, relief decoration of stylized dragons. The handles are in the shape of the heads of Buddhist lions. The cover is surmounted by a socket which is fixed by a screw cut in the stone. This censer is very elegant and of beautiful proportions, the sculptures are well executed. The stone has many defects (which are natural mineral inclusions) which did not put off the sculptor, it even seems that this stained effect was aesthetically sought...

Chinese Neolithic ceremonial harvesting blade (hu), made of semi translucent mottled green nephrite. Exceptionally thin and sharp cutting edge. 4 conical holes would have been for attaching to wooden handle on working versions of this type of blade. Likely from the Longshan culture. On a custom wooden stand. Age: (Circa 2,000 B.C.) Provenance: Came from an Estate of Philip Cardiero in Pebble Beach, CA. Size: 19 1/4" long x 3 7/8" wide x 3/16" thick.

Antique Chinese table screen made of serpentine from the Nangyang region. In two separate pieces: the picture slab of prized serpentine is framed in Huanghuali which sits into a carved frame. Valued for it's undulating natural snake-like layers, this serpentine screen once sat on a scholar's table. There, it could be admired and pondered for it's beauty.

Old Chinese ivory figure of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, in a refined and elegant pose. The body is made out of one piece elephant ivory and finish in a term "cold painted ivory" meaning that the color is applied without any firing to fix and harden it. This method of coloring ivory dates back to the Ming times and was particularly popular in the 18th century. This is probably 19th century piece. An absolutely stunning large Chinese carving of a Buddhist Rakan (Arhat or Arahat), the emaciated figure wrapped in billowing robes with a hand scroll clutched in his bony right fist.
