$1,800.00 Pair of finely carved wooden panels of the eight Taoist immortals and their attribute. These panels were to be part of a small religious piece of furniture rather than a screen. The wood is left natural, the carving is exceptionally good quality for Chinese woodwork. No traces of pigments, only the edges are lacquered in red as can be seen in a photo. The back of the panels is covered with a red layer of lacquer or oil paint which has cracked and degraded over time...

$4,000.00 Antique Chinese Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644, wooden figure. The figure is wearing a red robe with gold leaf. The robe is patterned with clouds and dragons. The face retains the facial hair. The back has a carved rectangular opening where the figure would have held sacred texts, imbuing to it a spiritual life. It measures 26" tall. Lacquered pedestal base is included to hold the figure upright.

Sold in our Liverpool shop - August 2018 / 利物浦店内售出 - 2018年8月 A rare pair of carved wooden figures made in China during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). For comparison of costume and facial features we have photographed them alongside a Ming Dynasty Fahua glazed soldier.
Condition: there are extensive losses and most of their original gilding has worn away.
