Unusual 3 paneled tufted blanket from the Rawang ethnic group in the Kachin State, Burma. The field is woven from bast fiber (possibly hemp), the reddish head ends have an animal hair weft, either goat or dog. There are a few areas that have a bright colored commercial yarn but other then that all natural dyes. In the red field there are some bits of missing weft noted in enlargements. This piece is circa 1950 (plus or minus), definitely old an old piece...

Rare ceremonial rice cutter from the Karen people (this particular one is from Northern Thailand). This knife would only be used on the first cutting of the season and as with most all of the rice cultivators in Asia there is a great deal of ritual and importance given to this act, regardless of the religion i.e. Buddhist, animist, Hindu etc. The handle has a wonderful original patina and the blade is till quite sharp.Circa 60 to 100 years old...

Colorful full length two paneled men’s tube sarong from Ende, Flores Island, Indonesia. I bought this new in 1988, and it has been in storage since then, having washed it once once. The brightly colored bands are made with commercial silk thread weft threads. The rest of the piece is made of handwoven handspun natural dyed cotton, with two bands of ikat. There are tiny weaving flaws here and there (little spots of broken threads, but no holes) otherwise pristine original condition...

The center panel pattern has been woven into the cloth with the warp thread forming the design while the border panel motifs are embroidered. L: 146cm/57in and W: 109cm/42in.

The white glazed ceramic censer has a cylindrical body with lappet band above molded trigrams. The tripod is raised on zoomorphic supports.
