The smooth, thin, crackled olive-green glaze pools in the center and accumulates at the exterior foot. Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Buddhist Lotus Jar

This rare and interesting pottery jar was made between the 10th and 13th centuries, during the Five Dynasties period (AD 906 - 960), Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province.�

It is quite "heavily-potted" and relatively highly-fired. The jar and cover have been formed with a lotus leaf design...

This piece has developed a nice deep brown / dark gray patina with several areas of greenish verdigris suggesting high copper content to the bronze...
