19th Century Chinese Root Wood Carved Fly Whisk

It is 7.5 inches (19 cm) long measured in stick only by 0.98 inch (2.5 cm) wide. It is 27 inches (68.58 cm) in length measured entirely.

It has a crack near the head of the handle, inclusions, and surface wears and scratches. The ferrule is loose and has breaks and loss. The tufts of fiber is shedding and brittle and has loss and breaks (as seen in the photos).

Ceramic "tenmoku" bowl of classical shape with thick rim and small base. Fine glazing of "hare fur" type, part of which has run down gracefully to the base. An unused Chinese civil 5th rank silver pheasant (baixian) badge in original paper wrapping. Background is black silk with a border of bats and the “shou” character. Eight Buddhist symbols are featured with the endless knot having been created using the forbidden stitch. Made for the front of a woman's surcoat, this rank badge is in excellent condition, measures 12", and dates late 19th century.

Beautiful Northern Korean bandaji (blanket storage chest) with highly ornate white brass fittings incised with birds and flowers and auspicious symbols. The white brass plated mounts are cladded onto the front of the chest hinged to allow operation of the drop leaf door. The chest has two handles on the side for mobility and two handles on the front to aid in operation of the door.
