Important embossed high content (+800) silver bowl, superbly decorated with detailed legendary/religious characters in niches all around the body, surrounded and surmounted by foliage design and resting on a stylised lotus decor. Height: 9.8 cm, diameter 10.4 cm, weight: 259 gr. Burma, late 19th century. Excellent condition. Provenance: acquired from a Bangkok (Thailand) antique dealer in 1978.

Fine Chinese Han Dynasty Burnished Pottery Cup

This fine & rare pottery cup was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220), or possibly a little earlier. It is made from a fine-grained grey pottery. This inner mouth and outer surface have a smooth burnished surface making it a real pleasure not only to view, but also to handle. The surface colour of the pottery varies a little in places, a result of uneven conditions in the kiln during firing.

Netsuke - Nice model of the Shichifukujin Takarabune (The famous boat loaded with treasures of the 7 gods of happiness) in carved boxwood. Nice carving details of the whole composition. The 7 deities are all identifiable, the boat itself is ornate, the waves and a small Minogame turtle sculpted on the base. The cartridge signature has disappeared over time. Very nice natural patina. Netsuke – A lovely model of boxwood group of chestnuts, one of which reveals the passage of a small worm, in carved bone. The natural chestnut color and wear to the wood provides a very naturalistic depiction. Wide himotoshi at the back. Beautiful natural patina. Nice finesse of sculpture. Netsuke - A mask carver, by Masayuki. The carver is holding his lasted creation, a chisel resting in his other hand. Evidently satisfied with his work, the carver twists his face into the same expression of that of this subject- a kyogen mask of the "liar" (usofuki) type, one eye closed and the lips pursed into a sideways whistle. This qingbai glazed meiping was made during the 13th - 14th century, the latter part of the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or the Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368). It is quite heavily-potted and coated in a finely-crackled pale blueish-green Qingbai glaze.

Japanese bronze sculpture of a tanuki. It represented as a Buddhist priest, wrapped in a cloak and lying on a mokugyo (a percussion instrument made of a fish-shaped wooden block and a stick, used to accompany the recitation of sutras).
