The artist would have started with a plain white base, painted his design with a mixture of finely ground cobalt oxide and water, and then used a transparent glaze all over. Beautiful famille rose porcelain vase depicting several of the Eight Immortals from Chinese mythology. The man on the far left wearing an orange robe resembles Lu Dongbin, the Tang Dynasty scholar who later became elevated to the status of an Immortal. Large Song Celadon bowl, olive green in color. In very good condition without chips or cracks. There is an incised flower pattern in the bottom of the bowl. Otherwise, small fritting /granulation is evident in the bottom of the bowl and a couple of these may have been compromised/worn down. Nice overall symmetrical shape and crackle in the glaze is quite faint. Diameter: 7 plus inches and 3 inches in height.
