The sculpture is of excellent quality. The Kouanyin is represented seated in a position of royal relaxation. Very heavy wood is covered with several coats of paint. The details are finely incised but are almost all covered by the paintings. The hand was made apart. The expression of the face is calm, attentive and benevolent. The movement of the fabrics is elegant.Traces of textiles.Yuan style but I am not able to certify the authenticity because there are so many copies. Having said that, all t...

The Kura
$2,000.00
A lovely tray in the shape of a split lotus leaf by Ito Tetsugai enclosed in a period wooden box titled Sencha Shiki Habon. It is roughly 53 x 25 cm (20-1/2 x 10 inches), expertly carved to be incredibly thin. Trays like these were used as decorative objects in the service of steeped green tea, and were very popular from the Meiji through early Showa eras.

Probably Tibet. Miniature Buddha in cast bronze gilded with the mercury technique. Under the base curiously we can see a Vajra cast in relief. The sculpture is simple rustic, the details are little or not chiseled, however the gilding is of the best quality, very thick and tends to flake.Traces of pigment on hairs and eyes. The style of the base with elephant and Buddhist Lions in front and crosses at the back, makes me think of the 15th century style. No restaurations. Very nice patina real...

A Siam style budha cast bronze head made at Bien Hoa professional School in Vietnam circa 1930. Nice reproduction and beautiful patina. The Bien Hoa school was created in 1906 by French administrators who, seeing Vietnamese art and culture disappear during colonization, wanted to safeguard this important Vietnamese artistic heritage. The school was therefore created, it housed hundreds of Annamese students who became sculptors, painters, ceramists, cabinetmakers etc... in order to perpetuate th...

Buddha in very heavy cast bronze. Never been gilded. Very nice natural brown patina. Very well known model of the Kien-long period, which usually are gilded and marked with the reign and sometimes dated and which are always in embossed copper (see an example in my collection n°10). The one presented here is in cast bronze. Good condition, some minor wear and shocks, no restoration. Height: 17,6cm Weight: 1490g

$1,800.00
Small cast bronze incense burner. The cast iron is very thick. The object is very heavy. It is treated like Japanese Raku stoneware, leaving a pronounced rustic look. Do not think of an easier job, quite the contrary, the finish with a scraper of the bronze and the polishing are neat. Style very rarely used in ceramics. On the lid a shishi serves as a button. Below an indeciphered mark cast in hollow. Excellent very old bronze patina. Probably Japanese and surely 18° or before. It is not unrea...

Cast bronze censer gilded with mercury. Decor of Greek friezes and incised precious objects. The gilding is largely worn, we still see some in the places most protected from wear and tear. It is thick and of good quality, it is a hot-pasted mercury gilding technique. The handles are attached to the body they were cast with it, they are not added, riveted or welded, they represent dragon heads. On the base foot we can see a vertical dark trace of solding that is probably an old restauration. Diff...

Thick cast bronze censer depicting a goose spreading its wings. I believe it is cast in two parts separately, the goose and the vessel then brazed together. Interesting subject, very nice finish and chasing. Old patina. No gilding, no restoration. Width the largest 14,5cm.

Cast bronze incense burner. Simple, tripod shape, with cut-out rather than welded handles. Despite its simplicity, this censer is of a good quality finish, in fact you can see on some photos the traces of the passage of the scraper tool which makes a perfectly smooth surface. Below cast in the mass the mark of Xuande. Although bearing this mark of the 15th century, this type of bronze is from the Qing period. The one presented here can be dated to the 18th century more or less 100 years. Good c...

Small cast bronze incense burner in the shape of a duck. The bird is lying on its folded legs and gracefully twists its neck to groom its plumage. There has never been a lid because the opening on its back is clean without grooves and without any trace of friction or wear. The carving is of good quality, the eyes and nostrils are particularly well executed. Chinese work from the 18th century or much earlier. Below, between the legs, the bronze cracked and was repaired with tin solder. Beautiful...

An amusing and very rare lantern in cast bronze, decorated in light relief with stylized cicada in the archaic style. The rear part cut out by crosses the front part open for the use of candles or oil lamp. The cast iron is of good quality and the finish is neat. The patina is very beautiful and guarantees the age of the object. I think it's a Chinese work but I have a doubt, it could be Japanese. If it's Japanese it is much rarer although less fashionable than Chinese. The simplicity, the power...

Small tripod miniature incense burner of simple form in cast bronze. The two handles are unusually very thin. Below we can see the 6 characters of the reign of Xuande of the Ming Dynasty. The bronze is old, the beautiful patina attests to it. However, it is difficult to date it exactly. Usually the bronzes bearing the mark of Xuande are from the 17th century. A wooden base and lid were added later, probably in the 19th century. The cover does not fit perfectly because it was made on the turn whe...

$4,500.00
Young boy in cast bronze. The subject is treated with breathtaking realism, thoughtful expression, body movement, everything is perfect and announces one of the greatest artists of his time. Examination of the fishing rod confirms this. Indeed this rod is so thin that it could not be cast, it was made patiently with a file starting with the thin end. It is movingly realistic with the knots and twists of growth. It is extremely fragile because bronze is a brittle metal. It's a miracle if it survi...

Cast bronze tripod, representing three dragon heads that hold their feet in their mouths. In the center a small container. It could be a censer. Maybe a candlestick. The style of the dragons with these long ears and the unicorn seem to us from the Yuan period or the beginning of the Ming. The excellent multi-centenary old patina would confirm such an ancient time. I don't think anything is missing in the center, because there are no signs of wear. Good condition.Large:21cm

The vase is cast in one piece. Inspired by archaic Chinese bronze ritual vessels, it bears a Taotie mask decoration. This decoration is reduced to two narrow bands instead of occupying more space as usually on the bronzes of the Ming period, this more austere character, the slender shape and the patina with a much more antique aspect allows us to think so. older, probably from the Song period or earlier. The base split on one side as shown in the photos. No welding, no hammering, no restorati...
