$1,650.00 An appealing Seto ware Umanome (Horse eye) motif dish. This type of Seto ware was also referred to as ishizara, which can roughly be translated as stoneware. The first type of Seto stoneware appears in the Mino Taihei Monjo written around 1618. The wares were produced mainly for daily ware during the Edo period and became popular through the Mingei movement in the 20th century.

The artist conveyed the wind intensity by the way that her headscarf has unraveled as she keeps it atop her head. Her feet nearly reach the water embankment as she readies herself for the work ahead. Price on Request Large silver geisha kanzashi (hair pin) with a family crest of three Kikyo (bellflower) blossoms within the kikko (tortoiseshell) hexagonal frame. Unique kanzashi for an elaborate hairdo. This kanzashi looks better than the photos shown. 9" long, late Meiji/Taisho period.
*The hexagon motif is a typical example of a pattern that was first popular among the courtly associates as a decoration on clothing, furnishings, carriages, and the like, and was later adopted as a formal her... A fine silver kiseru (kizeru) pipe with natural bamboo body, the ends finely engraved with a dragon and tiger in the bamboo grove. The color of the central bamboo section is dark (almost black) with purple tint. The eye (eyes) is inlaid with gold (very small though). Circa 1900. 7 1/4” (18.8cm)

She is a tantric figure whose image is used as a focus for meditation. She is shown gesturing the Dharmachakra Mudra, or Wheel-Turning Mudra, expressing the continuous energy of the cosmic order. She wears elaborate jewelry and her hair has applied blue pigment.
