ONE-GLASS-EYED FISH

Wooden adjustable fish-shaped lock part ('yokogi') of pothook for traditional Japanese hearth. Early-mid 20th century. approx. 29 x 12 x 7cm (11.41 x 4.72 x 2.75in). Only the right eye is filled with glass. Refinedly less sooted condition than usual "old fashioned", and such a lovely face.

One-of-a-kind!!! This is an item sui generis. A yellow glazed Raku chawan, dating from the Meiji Period (ca. 120 years old) with its original signed wood box.

The chawan is in superb condition with no chips or cracks. Around the bowl are carved chinese characters. The tea bowl is very solid and fits perfectly into the palm of the hands. Great chawan!

Size: 9,6 cm height x 11,7 cm diameter.

In my opinion it is the one of the most aesthetic chawans that he made. The seal of the artist is stamped on the bottom.

Seigan Yamane was born in 1952, and started making Hagi ware in 1987. And then, he started his own pottery in 1992 and has ever been awarded a lot of prizes for his great work.
