The last letter (kao like) is probably "nuri" which means painted or coated with. To roughly quote the Wrangham Index of Inro Artists – according to Soken Kisho, Kahei was a mysterious makie artist that lived in Kyoto during the 18th century. This is another rare offering as we have never seen anything like this piece before. The piece has a beautiful mix of butterflies and flowers with a gradation of tones throughout the body. This is a large fine Japanese cloisonne vase from Gonda. The wireless work is beautiful. The use of the subtle yellow tones behind Mt Fuji are an exquisite touch. We have had several of the small vases like this but never one this large or this quality from Gonda. The vase stands 7 1/4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is mounted with silver rims and the condition is outstanding.

This is a great Japanese cloisonne vase signed by Hayashi Kodenji. It has a large 4 sided form and is prolifically decorated on all sides. The enamel just glows and the workmanship is spectacular. The scattered sparrows are all done in gold wire. Overall condition is excellent. There is a circular craze on one of the shoulders that is not easy to notice. It take very bright light to see it. This is a large attractive cloisonne vase that we have had on display for many years. It is not signed and we're not sure of the Artist. It stands 24 inches tall and is in excellent condition. This is a rare and large wireless cloisonne vase. It is not signed but because of the Iris flowers and water plants we believe it was made by Gonda. In fact we once had a signed Gonda piece with Koi and almost identical water plants. A beautiful large vase that looks perfect but upon very close inspection, a line deep in the enamel can be seen in bright light. I show it on the last image. This vase 18 1/2 inches tall, heavy and stoutly made.
