Long suzuribako (calligraphy box) with nashiji lacquer background, plum tree decoration in a lake landscape in takamaki-e, kôrin maki-e and kirigane. The plum tree (ume), which blooms at the beginning of the year, announces spring. Its flower is a symbol of protection against demons. On the inner lid, decoration with seven flying birds near a coast with clouds. Pewter inlay on the nodes of the trees in the style of Ogata Kôrin.

Japanese small Tansu, Meiji period, late 19th Century, 21" high, 22" wide, 11" deep, one(1) long drawer above three(3) short drawers on the left side, hidden drawers behind blind door on the right side, mounted with heavy black iron hardware. The condition is all original, as found condition and the lock compartment inside is missing.

These pieces are a part of smoking set tabako-ire. It consists of a kiseruzutsu (pipe case) of a tonkotsu(tobacco pouch) in black lacquered crocodile leather. Both parts are bound by a leather link decorated with a red stone ojime.

Simple yet elegant sobriquet seal utilizing a Chinese stone similar to chicken blood stone. The seal contains an inscription which translates as: The seal was carved on an auspicious day in December of 1958 (for) Fujiwara Gyokuun.
