$1,200.00 Lacquered wood sake cup. Hira and Taka Maki-é gold powder decoration on a Kinji (gold powder) background depicting a procession. It seems that they are children in a cart.The roofing continues on the red lacquered back.Period 19th Edo or Meiji.

Good condition except for a tiny chip on the edge visible on an enlarged photo. No restoration or repainting.

archive A finely painted and gilt pair of Japanese lacquer ware dishes, on black ground and decorated in iro-e-togidashi, togidashi maki-e and kirigane maki-e of shikishi moyou ; the three asymetrically-positioned panels depict a landscape with bridge, buildings in the field and birds.
Age: late Meiji(1868-1912).
Size : 7 1/2in. (18.8cm) diameter.
Condition: excellent. no chips, no restoration.

It represents the cross section of a bamboo cane node with its light brown diaphragm slightly bulging in the center of the lid and stand. External layer of the bamboo cane representing the cellulosic fibers.
Bamboo, strong, flexible and fast growing, symbolizes strength, flexibility and prosperity.

$2,500.00 Black lacquer box decorated with butterflies and flowers in red, green and yellow lacquer. Detail in powdered gold lacquer and kirikane (small gold square.) Curiously there are only 2 elements in yellow lacquer, a butterfly and a flower. No signature.
Good condition, no restoration. Slight wear and tear for a 19th century lacquer.
I think that the drawer knobs have been replaced because they are simple and in copper alloy while the other mounts are in white metal which is probably silver.

Brush box (fudebako) made of wood and lacquer. On the lid, lacquer decoration representing sagittarius, a flower inlaid with ceramic and a leaf inlaid with mother-of-pearl (raden).

The object is done in black lacquer with makie decorated with a motif of a peony. Inside the container is decorated with gold in the style known as Nashiji, or pear skin. Age: 20th century. Wood and lacquer lectern (kendai) with a drawer at the foot. Takamaki-e decoration representing an eagle on a rocky promontory, surrounded by vegetation. Head down and wings half unfolded, it is about to fly away, perhaps to hunt its prey.

SOLD Rare Japanese Tansu made of inlaid woods with lacquer panels. Beautifully inlaid with wood in designs of fans and japanese symbols. The inside has black with gold landscape scenes. The drawers are black with copper colored design. The doors have scenes with chickens and a rooster. Outfitted with brass hardware. It measures 13" deep 23" wide 21" tall.
