Karatsu pottery is one of most desired pottery type in Japan based in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture since 15th century.
It is made from high in iron clay often decorated with an iron-based underglaze, giving an earthy and natural feeling to the fired items.

A wonderful example of an original Japanese Armored Safe chest. Constructed of hand selected and quartered sawn keyaki (zalkova hardwood) and hand forged iron hardware / fittings. Thick hinged door opens to reveal 4 individual drawers with secret compartment located under the largest (bottom) drawer. Internal drawers are made of original light kiri (paulownia) wood.

An unusual early Meiji period medicine 2-tiered Kusuri chest. Made from 100% quarter sawn kiri (Paulownia) wood, and small hand forged iron pull hardware. Original warm red tones with brown undertones finish give the small chest a great sensibility. Total of 13 individual drawers, used to store and keep natural remedies, herbs and tonics.

Set of fittings in cast and hammered bronze, suitable for 2 Chinese cabinets with one door or for a large cabinet with double doors. All the elements are decorated with chisel-engraved dragons. A padlock is part of the lot. Hand-threaded rods and nuts allow the installation of fittings on the furniture. Dimensions of the hinges: 150 x 55 mm Dimensions of the central plates: 252 x 50 mm Oxidized, patinated. Good condition.

Glazed stoneware lime pot. Relief decoration, glued to the slip representing a dragon, a phoenix and Buddhist emblems covered with thick blue, brown and cream enamels. Rare carnelian bowl with a beautiful deep orange-yellow. The typical Chinese shape is classic, and the capacity is that of a tea bowl. The grinding work is meticulous, the shape is perfect, the Agate has an excellent color which shows shades of color ranging from yellow to orange through transparency. Antique Japanese blue and white studio ware porcelain container. Made with 6 sides and a flared base. The sides are decorated with a scene of misty mountains and a small village. Small figures in a boat pole along a river which runs under a bridge and weeping willows. On one side is a poem originally by Meng Shuqing (孟淑卿), a female poet of the Ming Dynasty from Suzhou, maybe around the late 15th century, who also used the name Jingshanjushi.

Antique Korean gat, a tall cylindrical hat woven of horsehair with a wide brim. Framed with thin, black lacquered bamboo and with a ribbon for securing under the chin. Black gat were traditionally reserved for men of noble status who had passed the gwageo civil service exams. This hat comes with a custom metal stand.

Chinese Qing dynasty to Republic period rectangular form hinged camphor wood storage box with dove tail joints, narrow removable inner shelf, round brass lock plate at the center front, and brass side carrying handles. Late 19th to early 20th century. 17 1/4" long x 9 3/8” wide x 8 3/4" high. Very good overall condition with only a few fine cracks from age.
