Like a fossilized ammonite excavated from some dry desert pit, dry green glass leaves off to arid cracked earth on this swirling vessel by Atarashi Kanji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is a powerful work with sensational textures. 26 cm (10 inches) diameter, rising from 7 to 11 cm (3 to 4-1/2 inches) high at the shoulder. Due to the convoluted shape and extreme temperatures there are stress fractures born from the firing process.

An unusually large size bronze rain drum from Laos, a Herger type three drum. Reference material "The Karen Bronze drum of Burma" by Richard M. Cooler. It has an unusual 3 frogs (twelve altogether) on top with a twelve pointed star with continuing concentric circle with stamp decoration. DESCRIPTION: A colorfully painted Tibetan chest with four side drawers having leather strap pulls (two drawers on each side). The chest is painted with green floral panels having red floral borders and is supported by short legs. A carved key fret pattern decorates the neck just below the top. Dating from the 19th C, this chest is in good condition with very minor scuffs to paint. DIMENSIONS: 33” high x 28.5” wide x 18”deep.

A gilt copper repousse figure of Garuda, finely worked with outstretched wings, his hands in the Karan mudra or demon-expelling mudra. He wears long necklaces hanging from his neck, with matching arm bands and wristlets. The front of the figure with gold gilt, blue, green, and orange pigments with black and white pigments for the eyes. Garudas are protectors and enemies of the Naga or serpents.

Antique Tibetan wood carved phurba, a ritualistic Vajrayana Buddhist implement. Wrapped with colored cloth around the lotus handle. Phurbas often depict Nagas or snakes on the blade. Nagas are the entities in nature that associated with illnesses. The entwining serpents are a symbol of medicine and healing. Antique Tibetan flint carrying pouch (also called a mechag or chuck muck), made of leather with repousse silver plaques, inlaid with turquoise and coral front. Motifs of filigree and flora are seen through the silver plating. The leather purse is made to hold a flint piece and some burnable material. The flint is struck against the iron blade, making a spark which is caught in the material. The top is fitted with brass hardware for hanging from a leather strap.

Antique Tibetan flint carrying pouch (also mechag or chuck muck), made of leather with plaques of repousse silver with inlaid turquoise front medallion. Motifs of filigree are seen through the silver plating with a pair of diving swallows. The backside of the pouch with heavy studs. Antique Persian Baluch rug, 100% hand woven wool in rust brown, light red, and indigo hues, with repeating geometric motifs throughout. These rugs are hand-knotted by the nomads of Baluch. Baluch or Baluchistan is the area between the borders of Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan-- this is why Baluch rugs are said to be a mixture of three different regions.
