Unusual Antique Japanese Sakata Funa Tansu (Captain's ship safe), made of very heavy solid Keyaki (Zelkova) wood with lovely dovetail joints used in its construction. This is a profusely decorated ultra fine Japanese cloisonne vase. It is in perfect condition and panel vases like this one do not come any better. The quality matches many early Hayashi vases. he rims are silver. It stands 6 inches tall and is signed Ota Kichisaburo. A few years ago we had a similar pair signed by Shibata that were of the same quality. See the last image.

Antique Japanese Keyaki (elm) choba tansu (merchant chest) with original golden brown finish. Used to store important documents for ones business. Made from all Keyaki hardwood with dramatic, gorgeous graining seen throughout. Two large sliding front panels of beautiful swirling natural burl patterns. Five locking drawers beneath for additional drawer storage. Early Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). Size: 28.5" H x 28.5" L x 15.5" D

Antique Japanese single section mizuya (kichten chest). Made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood with dark keyaki (elm) wood burl panels. The left side of the tansu has a compartment opened by sliding doors with vertical slats. The right portion of the chest has a smaller compartment opened by sliders with decorative cut outs and wire mesh. Below these compartments are 8 drawers of various sizes all with keyaki wood fronts and round iron drawer pulls.
