This is an old Japanese silk obi. The style of the obi is called Chu-ya (day and night) obi – it’s made with two different fabrics sewn together. As the name suggests, two sides of the obi can be worn for totally different social functions. Both sides are absolutely beautiful on this obi.

This is the most formal and elaborate style of obi called maru obi. The designs run through the entire obi from one end to the other on both sides. The dimensions: 12" wide x 12'5"(161") long. The cost of making one maru obi is substantially higher than a typical obi. The design here include chrysanthemums, wild flowering plants of autumn, fans and Genji wheel that implies the presence of graceful aristocrats from the Heian period(794-1185). Beautiful antique Japanese temple scroll from the Edo period (1615 -1867). The Buddha has left his physical being and attained enlightenment. After one of his close followers prepares a bed under the sal trees for him, the buddha dies. All the beings of the earth, good, evil, divine, and animal mourn his departure. The buddha is painted in gold leaf. Sumie ink and mineral colors. Provenance: from a Montclair, California estate. It measures 46" wide by 94" long.

This is a Japanese silk obi with a painting of men transporting lumber down the river. It is a scene that became obsolete as new technologies, such as trains, trucks and the creations of dams, developed. It is hand painted on silk with an artist’s signature and seal. Beautiful antique silver bracelet from Himalayan region, my best quess is Nepal. Six Lapis Lazuli stones set in convex curve with etched leaf design that covers the background of the bracelet. Hinge and pin opening gives easy on and off usage.

Beautiful antique bowl from the late Southern Song/ Yuan Dynasty, 12-14th century. The bottom of the bowl is applied with two scaly fish. The bowl is covered overall with a sea green tone glaze that is paler on raised areas. It measures 1.75" high by 5.25" wide.

Remember this vase. It is the only one like it in the world. It is stolen merchandise. The story behind how this vase was taken is terrible and the crud that did it needs to be nailed. The vase is very large for a Yabu piece, standing 12 3/8 inches tall. If it were not stolen Merchandise it would have a value of $50,000-$100,000. A rare Cultural Revolution era wood carving depicting a girl dancer holding a lantern, probably from a People's Liberation Army Ballet or possibly from a Beijing Opera performance of the same period, circa 1966-1976.
