A fine silver kiseru (kizeru) pipe with natural bamboo body, the ends finely engraved with a dragon and tiger in the bamboo grove. The color of the central bamboo section is dark (almost black) with purple tint. The eye (eyes) is inlaid with gold (very small though). Circa 1900. 7 1/4” (18.8cm)

Sold. Thank you! Scruffy looking old Japanese warrior doll (musha ningyo). This doll is not so tall (11 1/2" tall) but heavily padded, solid and quite heavy. When we acquired this doll, his hair was already replaced once and most of it was; one side is painted in black. Old glass eyes. The checker design (ichimatsu design) on his clothes is very similar to "Enshu-donsu", one of the famous fabrics used for tea ceremonies in the Edo period. 11 1/2" high x 11" wide x 12" deep. SOLD Description:
A white-glazed plate was stand in high stem foot. Separated in four sections in the cavetto, the plate was mold by lobed rim which was then by accurate look of imitating the silver counterpart of the same date. In grayish white tint, the glaze was yielded with subtle incursions which was caused from age. Motifs of tailing fish and sea waves were decorated in the center of the shallow bowl. They were the other characteristics of the ware from the dated periods. From our Southeast Asia Collection, a fine and large Thai Rattanakosin bronze Buddha, early-to-middle 19th century, depicting Buddha with both hands raised shoulder level with palms forward in Ham Samut mudra, also known as "Calming the Waters" or "Calming the Ocean" mudra. Buddha is wearing regal attire here with traditional tall crown and body jewelry that is elaborately inset with lacquer and glass adornments. Gilding retention is relatively high on this example. From our Japanese Collection, a superb and large satsuma lidded jar / tea caddy by Ryozan, Meiji Period 1868-1912, stunningly executed with exceptional fineness depicting two cartouches of people gathering, alternating with two cartouches of ducks and birds in nature scenes, all separated and framed by intricate brocaded reserves of floral motifs using wonderful color variation and extensive gilt.
Size and Condition: A relatively large caddy at 7 1/4 inches tall, 6 1/8 inches wide.

Sold to UK - August 2011 售至英国 - 2011年8月 A 16th/17th Century eight-sided bronze censer (incense burner) made in China during the late Ming dynasty (circa 1550-1644). Condition, very good - two of the feet have been secured by rivets one with an associated split and there is a small 0.8cm long thin gap below the rim - all possibly dating to the time of manufacture (please view enlargements 7,8 and 9). Dimensions - 14cm (5.5inches) across; 8.5cm (3.3inches) high.

The base carries the six-character reign mark of the Xuande emperor but this item was made later during the 17th or 18th Century. Condition - excellent. Dimensions - 24cm (9.5inches) wide; 14cm (5.5inches) high. Weight 4.4 kilos (9.7 pounds).

Sold to Hong Kong - February 2011 售至香港 - 2011年2月 A bombe form bronze censer finely carved with four winged mythical animals and two fish. The base carries a Xuande reign mark but this item was made later, probably circa 1795-1850 during the reign of the Jiaqing or Daoguang emperors. Condition - very good - this item had been polished when we acquired it about eight years ago but is now regaining its patination; there are no damages or losses. Dimensions - 23cm (9inches) wide; 8cm (3.2inches)high. Weight 1.7kg (3.8lb).

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a fine and very large Khmer (Cambodian) handmade silk textile now framed as a wall hanging, executed in traditional Khmer palette using a combination of natural vegetal dyes and synthetic colors, depicting various animal and geometric motifs. A very striking and dramatic piece not commonly encountered.
Size and Condition: 94 1/2 inches wide, 40 1/2 inches tall. Some minor thread pulls here and there but overall excellent condition. From our Chinese Monochrome Collection, a beautiful white porcelain Guanyin, Goddess of Compassion and Mercy, executed in the style of early 20th century slip-cast blanc de chine from Dehua, but actually a later vintage-era white porcelain example from Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province. (Among other things, the difference here rests in the nature of the underlying porcelain paste, which to novice eyes may be difficult to discern, but to our eyes is clearly not true blanc de chine.)
