Maginficent, antique basket from the Naxi/Nakhi ethnic group in Yunnan province. I purchased this in 2001 at local market in Lijiang (now a UNESCO heritage site). Burl wood and silver bowl, used for Tsampa, the traditional Tibetan porridge, and for buttered tea. The silver lining plain, the exterior with chased and delicately engraved decoration of flowers. Tibetan silver normally lacks hallmarks and this bowl tested for a silver content of 925 /1000. Probably antique, late 19th or early 20th century. Diameter "4 ½ / 11 cm, height "2 ¼ / 5.7 cm. Fine old, three paneled, supplementary weft embroidered wedding blanket from the Zhuang ethnic group Guizhou Province China. Handspun and handwoven cotton thread foundation and silk for the embroidery. The central area is dominated by the “well” “#” pattern, while the border is a combination of the “well” pattern inside a “wanzi” swastika meander. There are few small faded areas but no holes or tears. W: 104cm/40in and L: 140cm/56in.

Chawan, or tea bowl, for use in the the tea ceremony. Fine gray stoneware turned out rather thin of almost round shape, with a ‘soul’ in the bottom, standing on a bamboo shaped foot, a swirl inside the foot. Opaque yellow glaze with fine crackle covers the ceramic. Over the yellow a white slip hakeme brush stroke on the outside and on the inside.

Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Saddled Horse

This pottery model of a saddled horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is "heavily-potted" and made from a reddish pottery. The horse stands alert with its head head up. The surface has been "cold painted" in a reddish-brown pigment with details picked out in red, black and white pigments.

Height 28 cm. It is in good condition with any possible repairs having been performed to a professional standard.

Rare TALL Chinese Liao Dynasty Stoneware Jar (AD 907 - 1125)

This rare stoneware jar was made during the Liao Dynasty (AD 907 - 1125). It is particularly "heavily-potted" and coated with a thick and uneven olive-green glaze, both inside and out. In places the glaze has not vitrified properly leaving a matt appearance. The mouth has sagged a little to one side during firing. The flat base remains unglazed revealing the pale pinkish-brown body.
